Vine Records Issues Statement From Naomi Sego [UPDATED]

Christian Voice Magazine recently reported that Naomi Sego told their reporters that she had received a letter from former members Kasey Kemp and Judson Horner stating that they now owned the Sego name and that she would have to quit using the name. CVM also provided documentation of Kemp and Horner jointly registering "the Segos" as an LLC (Limited Liability Company) on April 28, 2008, in the state of North Carolina, with Judson Horner listed as the "initial registrant." Additionally, the web domain, http://www.thesegos.com , was registered on April 15, 2008. Judson Horner is listed as the registrant for the domain.

Today, Vine Records, issued a press release where Naomi is quoted as saying, ""Contrary to recent misrepresentations, Kasey, Judson and I are on good terms. They are like sons to me and have never threatened me. The Sego name and rights are not and have not been in jeopardy. These boys have been an integral part of this group on multiple levels, and we have enjoyed our years on the road and writing this final chapter together. We will be promoting this recording together and doing interviews together. We may even do a few last stands together on select dates. I am grateful for all of these years and excited to be ending the group on a high note with this album. I will continue to travel as long as I can get up and get on the road. It's what I've done for so many years, and ministry is what I love to do."

Christian Voice Magazine had this to say about the above statements, "To say that we've misrepresented anything regarding this matter is completely and utterly false. We have published nothing but the facts. Every interview, every investigation and every phone call regarding this issue has been well documented. We continue to fully stand behind every report we've made."

In addition to reporting the above statement, Vine Records announced the release of the final project from Naomi & the Segos which includes former members Kemp and Horner. The recording, produced by Wayne Haun and Kevin Ward, entitled Happy Ending, will hit shelves nationwide on June 24th, distributed by Crossroads Entertainment and Marketing.

UPDATE:

SGN spoke to Naomi Sego today in regards to a few questions concerning recent events. When asked if Christian Voice Magazine had ever misrepresented anything in their news reports or statements attributed to her, she stated, "No, I was not misrepresented." When asked if she did receive a letter telling her to stop using the Sego name she replied, "One of the boys had left his car at my house, when they came to pick up the car, the letter was left in my back door." She confirmed that there was a time when the use of the name was in question, but upon recent counsel with her son the situation has been resolved and the parties are now working together. Naomi also stated she has no plans to retire and she has not decided the future of the Naomi and The Segos group.

I said, we said, they said, she said, he said, what was said, so I reported, we reported, they reported, she reported, he reported, what was reported that was said, so I believed, we believed, they believed, she believed, he believed, what was reported of what we said, they said, she said, he said what we thought was said.

So, I don't think we will ever know what was really said.

wow I agree, I am CORNFUSED. My comment would be, NEXT, as in I'm finished with this fiasco. There have been so many stories come to light that have contradicted each other my interest is gone. Most likely cause it hurts too much to try and think thru all the he said she said stuff lol. I guess "We'll understand it better by and by" ha ha.

It's pretty easy to read between the lines. Vine is trying to do damage control on a new cd they just produced. My guess is Miss Naomi is trying to mend fences at the urging of her record label.

Court documents and time-lines don't lie. A LLC Corporation was filed by those two guys after they gave their resignation. It don't take no genius.

Hey Tony...that's GRRREAT!! Sorry I could not resist. I am Naomi & the Segos manager and booking agent and I know exactly what transpired. I have chosen to refrain from being a part of any negative comments. It seems to me that most of the individuals who have posted comments are intelligent, discerning people. And, as you said, Tony, documents and time lines do not lie. People do. I have known Naomi for many years and she is one of the most Godly, anointed women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Oh, and she does not lie. Never. No way. Uh uh!!

The biggest reason it appears to be such a "he said, she said" issue is because Kasey has tried to refute every report from the beginning. When those didn't work, but only made it worse, Haun/Vine steps in.

You hit the nail on the head, Tony. But what I am confused about is, even after all the evidence and contradictory statements from Kemp & Horner, why on earth would Haun/Vine stick his neck out for these guys with a bogus press release?

To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing that binds these guys to Naomi or to Vine Records. So, to say that he's trying to salvage a new recording doesn't even really make sense at this point. Why not replace the guys with two other singers on the recording and move on? It may cost somebody a little more money, but wouldn't it be worth it, all things considered?

And has anybody noticed that none of the news sites have published the press release? At least not up to this point. Not even Singing News.

CliffCerce's avatar Just connect the dots.

There are credible reports of what Naomi has said from credible sources that have spoken to her recently (CVM, SGN and Terry Dorsy, her manager)contradicting the statement put out today that announces "where she's at".

It should have said "where we wish she was at".

Documents, timelines, and credible sources (all in agreement) on one side of the scale - and a press release on the other side of the scale from those former members, who announced on May 21st that they had resigned 5 weeks earlier.

I understand everything except what you all don't seem to understand.

I have held back on saying anything about the Naomi plight. I have known Naomi and the Segos for over 50 years. The more that is said, the more we trample good names and individuals in the mud. To say Naomi has not been damaged would be an understatement. But yet we say we love her

We are never to take someone elses offense on our shoulders. Why should we try to remove a speck out of someones eye when we may have a board in ours.

I just wonder, when Naomi and these guys do their select dates together, if anyone will attend? Everybody seems to be an authority on the issues, but the ones involved. Everyone has become a Dick Tracy of sorts.

Just maybe in light of what is happening, the other singing news sites may not know what to print.

News sites are supposed to be Dick Tracys.

Perhaps other news sites didn't receive the original resignation press release from Kasey Kemp. Don't forget where this all originated. Kemp tells the world he is resigning because of financial reasons but he turns around and files a LLC for a name that he said couldn't afford to pay him. It doesn't take a Dick Tracy for this one.

I think that people who love Miss Naomi are defending her.

CliffCerce's avatar Please understand - as I posted on another site - I only became involved because Naomi's organization asked me to help. (And they have taken the position that I have helped).

Someone in her organization (that I have never spoken to before) called me out of a clear blue sky, bringing me a message from Naomi that she wished to thank me for something that I posted in her support. This person later caused Naomi's manager, Terry Dorsey, and others to contact me - people who had spoken directly with Naomi and were in a position to know her actual feelings and wishes.

It would be a mistake to assume that some of us that have commented on this situation were not in possession of the facts - or have spoken without proper authorization from some of the principals. I, for one, have not posted anything apart from the wishes of Naomi's team.

There are, obviously, other facts that are in play in this story, and it would be in Naomi's best interests for all concerned to pray for her to our Lord, Who knows all and sees all.
