Rights To Sego Name in Question [UPDATED]

According to news reporters for Christian Voice Magazine, new information has surfaced concerning the departure of Kasey Kemp and Judson Horner from Naomi & The Segos.

At some point last week Naomi Sego Reader told a CVM reporter that she had received a letter from former group members Kasey Kemp and Judson Horner stating that they owned the name, "The Segos" and informed her that she could no longer use "The Segos" as part of her group name. After using the name for over 50 years, Naomi is now being told she can no longer use the name, although it has been a professional name for James Sego, late husband of Naomi Sego Reader as The Sego Brothers and Naomi.

CVM investigation also revealed that Horner and Kemp jointly registered "the Segos" as an LLC (Limited Liability Company) on April 28, 2008, in the state of North Carolina, with Judson Horner listed as the "initial registrant." Additionally, the web domain, http://www.thesegos.com , was registered on April 15, 2008 with Judson Horner listed as the registrant for the domain.

Naomi Sego has expressed her hope of a peaceful resolve and desires the prayers of her friends and supporters.

UPDATE

Our offices were contacted by Kasey Kemp this morning with the following statements:

I have read the statment on your site and we have some MAJOR misunderstandings. While part of the group, Judson and I expressed interest in purchasing the Sego name. At that period in time, Naomi expressed her interest in us continuing beyond her retirement, whenever that may be. She told us she would like to speak to her son and would let us know the outcome. As you know, a process such as this is very lengthy and can sometimes take months. While still in question, we began the paper work hoping this would relieve Naomi of current stresses and allow us a secure future. However, when it became necessary for us to leave the group because of financial stress, we started the dissolution of the LLC. We did leave a letter concerning the ownership of the name, but it's intent was to stop Terry Dorsey from kicking us off dates we had promised to ful-fill. As a matter of fact, I have already spoken with Naomi's son, Carlton Sego about the dissolvement. He is in complete understanding of the original intent of the formation and has no problems with our actions. The reason it still appears on the government's site is because the process takes several days to remove it. However it IS inactive. There are no problems between us and Naomi and a call for a "peaceful resolvment" is not needed. There is nothing to resolve because we are NOT using the Sego name and never intend to without proper permission.

Our offices have been unable to confirm at this time to what extent Carlton Sego is involved in Naomi Sego's interests or in this situation.

Names have been sold & traded in Gospel Music since day one, so that the "company" and "business" of popular groups can carry on as the years go by. Had this been a public statement from the start, and all parties were on the same page, we wouldn't be having this discussion at all. Look at how many groups that are legendary hardly have any blood from the original group at all. This way this has been handle so far though, the name Sego is going to be bloodstained if these guys try to use it. You fellows might as well pick a new one and move on.

Too late to "nip it in the bud" sir.
You seem to have been "misunderstood" because of actions and words that had their origin with you. You shouldn't blame others for your own deeds.
Remember that "these sites" are not our only source of information. You, sir, have been putting out clues about who and what you are in many ways and many places. I, for one, cannot feel your pain. Sorry.

Ditto! He's not as "hidden" as he thinks he is. He's made way too many enemies and they're talking.

This guy has relentlessly hurt and trashed a lot of innocent people in the last few years, and it's finally catching up with him. God's word is true, we reap what we sow.

It seems to me, Mr Kemp, that "thou doest protest too loudly". You mentioned trying to "buy" the Sego name, and then you spend $125 dollars to file an LLC. And, apparently, the LLC is NOT in the process of dissolution. If anyone cares to check out the information on this, you can go to
http://www.secretary.state.nc.us/corporations/Corp.aspx/Pltemld=8803307 and check out the dissolutions, and check the current-active LLCs under The Segos LLC. As for it taking a LONG time to get this process done...it only took 8 or 9 days after filing to get this thing "active" which seems to be it's present state.
And in whose best interest was all of this done?
And we, the supporters of a wonderful lady, WILL NOT let this go. You, sir, said that you would NOT use the SEGO name without permission. Then why are you doing it? Did Naomi give you permission to file this LLC? You are already on record in North Carolina as OWNING The Segos,LLC.
How in the world could you do this to Naomi? And you said that you wanted to "relieve her current stresses"? It seems to me like you are CAUSING current stresses. Or at least, that is what it would be doing to me if I were in her shoes.
There are opportunists,and then there are OPPORTUNISTS!

Thanks - Kasey, I truly wish you the best in whatever path you deem to take!

There is a reason for everything - and we are not suppose to lean to our own understanding....

There are people who are intrinsically dishonest, and then there are people who are just misinformed. And sometimes, a person WANTS to believe that noone is out to do them harm. Wanting to believe that everyone is honest, just because they SAY they are honest; and can talk a mile a minute; and ACT so sweet and helpful;can be very dangerous. And as everyone knows, older people are particularly vulnerable to being scammed. But woe to the persons who do the scamming! It is true that you can fool part of the people part of the time; but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. And of course, you can't EVER fool GOD.
I do believe Naomi to be a sweet and forgiving person, but don't overlook that SOMEONE has taken advantage of her BIG TIME; I don't care how many press releases come out!
It also does not matter how many "bandaids" are applied to a "profuse" hemorrhage, it will not stop the bleeding.
I also find it very interesting that "Judson" appears to be a "silent partner" in all of this. However, Judson N. Horner is the initial registered agent in the Articles of Organization.
Surely, Judson couldn't be being used too.
I, for one, would like to see the dissolution papers, before I could believe that it is being dissolved.
