Diamond Rio “Southern Style”

I think it's great that gospel radio stations are playing this great song. We (Chosen Few) thought about cutting this song for our next project. I think the more we open up to work from secular artists, the better. Just because you're a plumber doesn't mean you can only do plumbing work in churches! I applaude Diamond Rio.... great work, great song!

I'm not real comfortable with the thought of taking away airtime from Christian Stations and Christian Artists with Christ centered messages and replacing it with Artist whose message centers on what the latest "trend" is. Church tonight, club tomorrow? And yes Christ did take his message to the gutters but it was a consistent message. It didn't change between breaks in the show.....

Charles I hope you were kidding. If you would have read the release it spoke about Diamond Rio being good guys. So, lets turn the tables, if TNN and the secular media had not allowed Gaithers Homecoming series in their PARTY NOT GOING TO HEAVEN FORMAT- Imagine how stale the growth of gospel would have been without those outlets.- So, when a gospel group or artist falls by the wayside- they are to be terminated by you because they are not consistent with their message. And trust me Rio and this record is not being shipped to gospel because its a trend. But, what you are saying is that only full time Christians can give to the world a positive message, and folks that are believers that dont have the opportunities to do full time ministry are not allowed to give anything positive to the world. Thats where your vision could cost a lot of souls to never hear a message. Most of the people that this record would keep off the air- radio would never air anyway. If radio wants to play somebody they will find a place. They will not cut anyone that deserves airplay.Just because me and Diamond Rio have a single. God Bless Rick Hendrix

Rick,
While I certainly appreciate the work you do in the industry & your accomplishments in the music industry are exceptional and to be held in high regard, I simply don't believe in turning the airwaves of Gospel Stations over to country & western singers. I don't care how sweet they sound. That's why we have Country Stations & Christian Stations & Rock Stations. I don't think I have to point that out to you. We have quite a few very talented and gifted artists who have devoted their lives to serving Christ and presenting the message of Christ in song. My point in my message was in the first line. " I'm just not comfortable with it". I enjoy all types of music & we record a variety of it here at Caraway. But it all has its place. I may be alone in my views but they are just that. My views. Since this site opens itself to opinions, I just expressed mine. I think of the Prodigal Son when the Bible says when he was in hog pin he "came to himself", realized what he had left and "returned to the fathers house". I can't image him making weekly trips back to roll in the mud with the pigs he left behind. Let's keep Christian Christian & Country Country. It makes for a lot less confusion. (Please note I have no problem at all with country stations playing the guys song. We hope some of them will tune into Christian radio stations.) Just not at all comfortable with the guys getting airplay on Christian Stations. Most of those folks have already received the message & left the swine behind!

Charles,
Hey man- I do see your point. I just don't agree with it. I think this Rio song has more meat and message in it than 30 percent of the songs I have heard out in gospel radio today. And as I pointed out, you are right there are a lot of gospel artist who have dedicated themselves to this full time- Their commitment to serve God only under one umbrella makes me wonder if they are just committed to preserving a format or changing a soul. We don't have to delegate where and when Christianity is placed. Lets just let all positive work go for the good of the Kingdom of God. I would never take from this industry ,I just want to give its listeners every opportunity I can to hear music my soul feels is life changing. Thanks for standing your ground on your beliefs.
God Bless-Rick Hendrix

let he who is without sin cast the first stone!!!! if anyone out there is perfect i would love to meet them because i only know one perfect man "jesus christ" i think this song can touch alot of unchurched people -- is that not who we are trying to reach- jesus went to the sinners not the religious people- the religious crucified christ--- we need to reach the people who have never heard the message -- that is the problem we all have --oh don't let this kind of person or this type of person in our church-- we are all so holy----- please jesus would rebuke you and go eat with the unchurched and the homeless sinners-- i think rick you know how we are to spread the message --keep up the good work --we will be playing it----

Rick, I understand your position and point as well and like you I don't agree with it. It's just the thought of having a country music group that sings songs one minute about getting lucky with someones elses wife and then the next song is about faith in Christ? I couldn't bear the thought of turning the pulpit (Christian Airways) over to Diamond Rio or any other CW entertainer for that matter. Are these the men who are supposed to bring faith, hope, peace & love to the fellowship of believers? Again, this is not about the songs being played over CW stations! It's about Christian Stations playing (acceptable?) songs from CW artists over Christian Airways.
Genesis 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Corinthians II 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
Luke 8:16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
Once again the question is over the appropriateness of using secular artists over Christian airways. Nothing more, nothing less. I just question rather we are doing the right thing by turning the time over to them. Fathers Best to You Rick! It's never easy making these kinds of decisions.

Tammy,
Please don't think for one minute that I am doing anything other than expressing my heartfelt belief that we are going to have to take a serious look at how we work in our industry. I have a tremendious respect & admiration of Rick and the work he has done in both this and the CW industry. I hope to some day be working with common clients & we believe that Rick has done Christian Music a great deal of good. I just have problems with the concept of bringing CW entertainers into the place of ministry. Fathers Best to You! We also have a heart for the lost & have a great love of our Lord Jesus Christ & His work.
