15-year-old Tess Milby of the Milby Family was awarded "Female Student of the Year" at the Southern Gospel Music School of America. Milby was also awarded a full scholarship for the 2009 school. Over 100 students attended this two-week school, held on the campus of Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN. The Friday evening recital showcased the students and faculty singing several of the convention-style songs taught in the school.

2008 was the inaugural session of the school. SGMSA features instruction in music theory, sight singing, ear training, conducting and songwriting. Private lessons are also available to students in the areas of piano, voice, and songwriting.

The Milby Family hails from Hodgenville, KY. Their current release to radio is "He Delivered Me" written by Daryl Mosley, and is being promoted by Family Music Group.
