MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Chris Unthank, member of up and coming group Sunday Edition and co-founder of SSE Group, Inc., is currently in the studio recording his debut solo album.
Unthank has been recording hand selected songs for the new album at Square One Studio in Franklin, Tennessee.
The new album, tentatively titled Love the Light, is being self-produced by Chris Unthank along with Square One Studio’s Steve Allen (Vestal Goodman, Legacy Five). The album’s tracks were recorded by Bobby McAllister at Salem Sound in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Allen is also mixing and mastering the disc.
Chris Unthank said, “Words can not describe how excited I am about finally recording this solo record. This has been a dream of mine since I was a teenager.”
Love the Light will feature three original songs co-written by Unthank. The album will also showcase songs written by talented songwriters like Rebecca J. Peck, Joel Lindsey, Ronnie Freeman, Donna M. Beauvais, Steven Cheney, Tony Wood, Amy Marie Unthank, and many more.
“I really feel like God just placed these songs in my lap – songs that have a timeless message yet are stated in a very modern way,” said Chris. “Some of these are songs people are familiar with, but most are not. I’m excited that God is allowing me this opportunity.”
Love the Light will feature a mix of styles, including everything from pop to country and Black Gospel to Southern Gospel. The album will feature a duet with Unthank’s sister, Amy Marie Unthank. In addition, The Imperials will be making a guest appearance as well.
“There are styles and songs that I want to sing that just aren’t compatible with the group setting,” said Chris. “This is way for me to do those songs.”
Love the Light will release in late summer/early fall. Chris is the voice behind Sunday Edition’s hit singles “Naaman” and “Call On Jesus.”
