Canaan Revisits and renews its legacy while enjoying The Ride with newly signed artist, The Hoppers

(Nashville, TN) July 31, 2007 – Canaan Records, a division of Word Entertainment, a Warner/Curb company, is excited to announce a spotlight on the re-launch of Canaan Records along with their newly signed artist, The Hoppers, in the July 27th issue of Billboard Magazine.

Penned by Deborah Evans Price, the feature focuses on the restoration of this Southern Gospel emblem. Word Label Group Sr. VP of Marketing, Rod Riley, hails Canaan’s General Manager, Dave Clark, as someone “who has been around in the industry for quite a few years and is a well-respected songwriter, but also knows what is happening in the Southern Gospel world.” He points out that Clark’s particular areas of expertise will foster success on both sides of the coin as head of Canaan Records and of Canaanland Publishing. Newly signed artist, Dean Hopper of The Hoppers, reflects with Price on Southern Gospel’s place in the industry over the past forty some years. He looks forward to Canaan’s reestablishment as a venture that will provide the setting for his genre’s next big surge.

The addition of The Hoppers (Claude, Connie, Mike, Dean and Kim) to this legendary label was announced at Word’s June sales conference. Their partnership with Word/Canaan is especially treasured in that they had always dreamed of being on this respected label. Dean brings one of his family’s greatest aspirations into perspective by saying, "We understand that in the grand scheme of things God has a plan where the main ingredient is timing…and we feel like God's timing for The Hoppers is now."

Canaan Records is also proud to announce the upcoming release of a two-disc compilation, Canaan Revisited, which showcases six of the most legendary Southern Gospel groups of all time: The Cathedrals, The Happy Goodmans, The Florida Boys, The Inspirations, The Nelons and The Talleys. Included is a brief history of the label as well as reflections from each group on what it meant to be a part of this record industry icon. One such reflection from Southern Gospel champion Judy Nelon equates the Norcross days to Canaan’s rebirth: “Watching Marvin take care of his groups and just about everyone else was endearing. After he had everything and everyone in place, Marvin enjoyed standing back watching them succeed. That's the way I see the new leader of Canaan today – Dave Clark has that kind, caring, and ‘everything is in control’ demeanor. It has worked before and I believe it is going to work again!”

The Hoppers, dubbed “America’s Favorite Family of Gospel Music”, have additionally won numerous Southern Gospel awards including “Favorite Mixed Quartet” from 1997-2003, “Favorite Female Singer” awarded to Connie Hopper in 1983-1984 and to Kim Hopper in 1999-2001, 2003 and in 2006. Their new aptly-titled album, The Ride, along with Canaan Revisited, are scheduled to release on September 4th of this year.
