Allison Durham Speer joined Gaither Homecoming Artists Lady and Reggie Smith, Mike Allen and Aaron Wilburn to sing for volunteers helping aid victims of hurricane Katrina. The concert was held Wednesday, September 21, 2005, at the Bass Academy in Purvis, MS. The volunteers were part of the Acts (Adventist Community Team) organization and were all college students from Adventist universities around the country. Director Dave Canther said, “This concert gives our kids a welcome break from the hard, hot work and is much needed and appreciated.”
Allison says, "I thank our friend Danny Shelton, president of Three Angels Broadcasting Network, for thinking of this idea and pulling us all together. I’ve never seen destruction like this. Television and print pictures don’t even come close to portraying the devastation this storm has brought to this area. The volunteers are giving of themselves, standing for hours on end in hundred-degree weather on hot asphalt to help their fellow citizens. It’s a great example of Christianity in action."
