Our QT has been using MD for a long time and we’d like to update to either a PC or iPod to play our tracks. We could probably figure something out for ourselves but I’m sure many of you have made the change so I’d like to pick your collective brains. Which is best, what software will we need if we go PC? Any info will be valuable.

We use EmCee Pro and LOVE it. It’s made for singers and eliminates a lot of little mishaps that can happen when you use other programs.
I’ve recently changed to EP as well…and I’ve got to tell you, it’s the best thing I’ve done. I had used MD for a long, long time…this application is perfect. If you’re going to be at NQC…stop by and see Ted. He’ll have a booth…he’ll also be at the Soloist Showcase on Friday morning at the Executive Inn (Label Room).
I’ll ditto all that…. We use it with a remote and it is WONDERFUL! Ted is great to work with too. he helps figure out cool stuff you ma need it to do that wasn’t even planned!
I look forward to meeting him at NQC!
ps…. I use it with a tablet pc laptop, and being able to move the screen various ways is very cool too…...
Can anyone tell me which is best to record in. wav. file or mp3. I know you choose which one and I dont have a clue why you would use one over the other etc.
My recording GURU says .wav as they are the cleanest, but I had already set mine up with .mp3 ...... I can’t tell the difference, and I feel that I am pretty discerning about sound quality….. If you are just now setting it up, I’d go with the .wav file. If mine ever crashes, I’ll redo it that way…. can you tell I am a bit lazy?
Emcee Pro is by far the best solution for Southern Gospel artists going today. It is light years beyond mini disc and an order of magnitude better than the Instant Replay box, and much cheaper. A tip here, when you do a new recording tell the studio to make you a disc of your tracks as wav files in data form. You can copy those from a disc direct to your harddrive with names intact. It is much faster, and much safer than ripping them from a playable CD. I would have them make a playable CD too as a backup though. I am not a fan of mp3 for many reasons. First it is not the quality of .wav files as it is a compression scheme which discards bits of audio based on what the compression scheme deems inaudible. It is very audible, especially to a trained listeners. Also when you copy mp3’s from location to laocation they suffer even more. Whereas .wav files retain their quality as long as they are copied as data.
If you would give Emcee Pro a try, I am sure you would be a convert too. Especially once you get the hang of transfering tracks from CD or data. It is easier to use, far more comprehensive, and far faster to upload files.
Our group just switched over entirely to EMCEE pro (full version). Awesome program, no trouble at all. I like the features that the program has. I have not tried anything too complicated like splitting stacks/clicks. Does anyone use emcee and do this?
We were in concert with Mike and Kelly Bowling recently and they use the program. Jeff said they had no problem at all.
The only complaint i’ve heard is not about the program but about someones computer. During a concert, the computer decided to start “automatically updating” itself.

You can turn automatic updates off in the setup of your PC. Remember, Instant Replay is a PC too, just hidden behind their front panel.
