Please pray for the folks who were impacted by the church shooting in my hometown of Knoxville Sunday. 2 people were killed and several others injured when a man entered the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church during Sunday morning services (7/27/08) and began firing a shotgun.

Children were putting on a performance in the church when the shooting occurred, but no kids were hurt.

The shooter is in custody, but police haven’t disclosed a motive as yet.

I agree we should pray for them, but calling this a church might be a stretch: they were putting on “Annie” as part of the worship service, founded an ACLU chapter, is pro-gay in their so-called theology, and more. Before I get roasted, yes it was sad, yes pray for them, but was this a church, or a gay-loving production of Annie?

Somehow, I knew this type of response would come up.

They are widely recognized as a church, they call themselves a church, so why shouldn’t you? So it doesn’t really matter what you call them, does it?

I don’t know much about them except what I’ve read, but the fact is two people are dead who just wanted to worship in their own way. I thank God that we live in a country where it’s still okay to do that.

By the way, the man who shot the folks had apparently written a letter saying he had an intense hatred for liberals and gays.
