Help Search for a Recording…

I am looking for a recording that was made of a Old fashioned convention style song (one of those where everyone goes a different direction on the chorus), definately by a male quartet, where after singing the first verse and chorus, each group member then sang their individual part before putting it all back together.  I know that The Cathedrals would sometimes do this with “Heavenly Parade” onstage, but I don’t think they ever recorded it.  Something in my memory makes me think that this may have been on a Kingsmen recording.  Anyone who might help me track this down, please respond.  Thanks for your help!

I’m not sure if you are looking for that particular song, but back in the “Good ‘ole Days” of Signature Sound, Garry Jones produced Heavenly Parade where all the guys sang their individual parts and then they put it all together at the end of the song.  It was recorded on the Signature Sound CD called “Building a Bridge: Great Quartet Songs of the Last Century. Volume 1.” I know after Garry and Shane Dunlap left they repackaged these discs with new members, but I believe it was still on it.  You might need to find it used if it’s out of print, and I’ve found eBay, Half.com, or Amazon very helpful for that.

HC PIANO,I am new to these forums but I may be able to help you. The Kingsmen recorded the song “Leave Your Sorrows and Come Along” on the Mississippi Live Album in 1987.Jim Hamill always referred to it as “page 156 in the red book.” I hope that helps you in your search. Dwaynerk

The Cathedrals recorded Heavenly Parade at least twice.  The first one I ever heard was acappella on their “Symphony of Praise” recording with Danny, Mark, Gerald, Glen and George.  I know they did it on a Gaither video and probably some other times.  Gold City did this song on a table project called “Havin’ Fun”.

I don’t think you will ever hear a better version of The Heavenly Parade than what the Cats did on Synphany of Praise and what the other post said about the kingsmen song is correct too. The Goodmans also did some of of those type songs like Sweetest Song I ever heard (Think the Stamps did that one too) and Amazing Grace how sweet the sound

Thanks to everyone who replied....  The Kingsmen, with Leave Your Sorrows is the one that was in the back of my head, but I’ll have to look up the others that were suggested.  Now on to Ebay for the search…

UPDATE:  Didn’t find the Kingsmen yet, but I did find the Signature Sound… BUY IT NOW>>>> YEAH!

I was thinking of ‘Leave Your Sorrows And Follow Me’ but i guess the more recent cut would be “The Cumberland Boys” from their recording ‘Living Up To The Name’.
