If someone could enlighten me on how presidential terms of office work that would be great.
My specific question has to do with terms of office for a president. From what I have been told a president can serve 3 terms of office of 4 years each, but only 2 consecutive terms of office. He then would have to wait out another term and then rerun for president. Is this correct or not? Could someone please explain.

here you go:

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

So...... was this written after/during FDR’s presidency, which was from 1933-1945?  If I am interpreting this right then he served 3 consecutive terms......... am I correct in my thinking? The older I get the more I “try” and understand politics.

It was the 22nd amendment ratified on February 27, 1951.  After FDR..

Interesting trivia:  These states rejected the amendment.....

1. Oklahoma (June 1947)
2. Massachusetts (June 9, 1949)

Thanks PatrickH for sharing your knowledge of this. It is still a little confusing (if I only had a brain....) but understandable enough to get by, I guess. Have a great day! Post ya later!
