I want to know what you Democrats think about Obama’s Pastor?
Did he just assure Hillary’s nomination?
Would you stay at a church whose Pastor said those things?

Obama said after 20 years of sitting under that pastor’s teaching that he didn’t know he believed that way. I think that is a damage control lie. Any church member who has attended and sat under a pastor’s teaching for one year or less knows the pastor’s heart and how he feels on major issues. I’ll bet this was no where near the only times he spewed such trash out of his pulpit.
This morning I heard a news report that in July of 2007 Obama was present as one of these sermons was preached. There was a report in attendance with him.
I would like to know where the so called civil rights leaders such as Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson are in this. If a well-known white pastor were to take the statements made by Reverend Wright and his church and replace every time they use the word “black” with “white”, Sharpton and Jackson would be screaming racism. The double standard is hillarious. I am also getting a kick on how the Dems seem to be trying to compare Obama’s relationship with his pastor to McCain’s non existent relationship with Hagee or Parsley. There are a couple of fundamental differences that make that argument flawed. First, McCain does not attend nor does he support either church, while Obama has attended and donated to Reverend Wright’s church for about twenty years. Second, none of Parsley’s or Hagee’s comments are racial. They all have to do with religion. Neither will show acceptance to Islam, or any other religion because it would go against the very core of Christianity. It would not be biblical. Differences expressed in the context of religion does not equal intolerance or racial buyist. Just my humble opinion.
Obama will get a free pass on this from the media and if the Republicans try to use it they will be called racist by the same media that is for the most part very liberal and in some cases close to anti-american. There is a double standard weather we like it or not and a lot of blacks just look at it as payback for the times when they were treated so poorly.
All we can do is vote like we should instead of sitting home and complaining and doing nothing.
I just saw Al Sharpton on TV defending the “pastor.” For the most part, black liberals can say anything about any topic and if they are challenged, then the challengers are called racists and bigots.

I thought that, too, but interestingly enough, there has been some pretty good debate among responders as to whether the speech yesterday had real substance or was just a lot of phony rhetoric. I listened to a little of it and was not impressed. Well, maybe I was impressed but not in a positive way.

I was under the impression that for a church to maintain its non-profit status, political statements or endorsements were prohibited. How can this church circumvent this law? If a predominanty white congregation’s pastor had made these statements, the IRS and other governmental entities would already be involed.

I recently heard on a talk radio show that as long as the pulpit is “available” to both sides that it is allowable. I guess being “available” is open to interpretation.

If this is indeed allowable, I would encourage people to go and visit other pulpits where Godly sermons, not political fodder, are taught.
The pastor’s comments were no worse than some of the lunacy and hate mongering Hagee and Roberson have spewed out from time to time, and McCain even sought Hagee’s endorsement.
I don’t really like the pastors comments but then again I don’t really judge a candidate by his pastor’s sermons anyhow. And the guilt by association thing is just Fox News, Limbaugh et al who are at best entertainers.
At least Obama addressed the issue head on rather than try to distance himself from it. I’m liking him more all the time, and I would certainly take him or Hillary over the likes of McCain.

Well, that’s certainly what Fox tells its viewers to think. My comments above weren’t based on any news source, really, although I am partial to MSNBC for TV, and like to get news from BBC from time to time.
