Old Time Preachers

I was wondering as I watch the disgusting liberal activist policies of our new government being enacted on a daily basis, just what some of the “great old time preachers of yesteryear” would have to say about the current state of our beloved USA.
Would they do as the far left would have, and so many preachers are, and water down the Gospel?
Or would they put out a firey retort that would singe the neck hairs of the liberals?

I can’t say for sure what the Billy Sundays and D.L. Moody’s would say exactly. But if we read and listen to their sermons and their teachings they tell us, warn us about the things that are going on today. Many of themm spent their entire lives dedicated to spreading the word of God and preaching against REAL SIN! Not simply catering to the good folk down at the First Baptist as not to affect the attendance or the offering or their tenure. Would the real men of God PLEASE STAND UP!

There is a day of judgement coming and we are going to stand, each and everyone of us, before an All-Mighty God who CANNOT go back on his word, and give an account of ourselves. Ar e you ready for that day? Is America ready for that day. I never thought I would see the day that Aetheism would be considered “mainstream”. What has happened to my beloved country?

I can tell you exactly what has happened. The appathy of the CHurch! that is it! APPATHY We select a pulpit commitee to seek out a pastor who will fit the bill of what we want in a pastor. Not what the church or the effected community might need in a pastor, but what Bro. and Sister Longbred wants in a pastor.  People don’t want a real, sold out, man of God to preach to them. They want a sell-out, yellow, pacivist, preacherette, to come and deliver a sermonette, so the can smoke cigarettes, and all be christianettes! This will not cut it when we stand before our MAKER! You cannot take the word of God and decide which parts you want to believe , or which parts you don’t find offensive, or which principals you may be able to manage!

I see people on the web who proudly wear the badge of CHRISTIAN! And then you see their profile on myspace or look through their pics on Facbook and they have pornographic photos of themselves!!!!!
A christian would not do that!

I have been repremanded on here before for questioning someones salvation, or lack thereof. I don’t care if the moderators throw me out ! These people have joined the Christian Social Club , but they don’t know what it means to be saved! They don’t understand about a right relationship with Christ and the ChURCH AINT TEACHING THEM>. Then who will.?

The Billy Sundays of yesterday are gone. God bless John Hagee he still preaches. America needs the word, unadulterated. I am ashamed of how we as Christians, with the power of the almighty God backing us up have cowered in the face of political correctness and Blasphemy until we a re about to lose our rights !

We need some old time hell-fire and brimstone preaching in this country from men who aren’t ashamed of the word of God and for it to be heard by Christians who are saved and will admit that they aren’t living the life that God wants them to!

Praise God, I am not afraid. Say Amen or Oh Me!  Matthew 12:25 says, “a house, or a city, divided against itself ,WILL NOT STAND! Our Country is divided. Most ofour churches are divided. How are they going to stand?

I have heard it said, from Church folk, well we try and do visitation, but people nowdays just won’t come to church. Is that what we are going to say before GOD? Well God we tried~.?
Matthew 13:24-30 is the parable of the wheat and the tares. Nowadays people are convinced that parables were for a different time. Not So> They are as relevant today as they ever where. If not more. But we don’t care. APPATHY!!! We may be sowing good seed but while we sleep, the ENEMY is sowing tares among the wheat! Let me see if I can relate this for you. You go to church and hear a good sermon, maybe even feel convicted about something the preacher said, about something that isn’t right in your life. Then you go home, you turn on the TV or the internet and watch the ballgame or the Nascar race. All the while being innundatedwith the commercials for Bud-Light with the pretty girls, Disorono with hot Guys, Victorias secret with ...well you know. The Bible says that we are to be set apart! A separate people.  Not to be conformed to the ways of the world. In this country we have allowed ourselves to become desensitized to SIN! And we will give an account before God.

Thank You

Some may not agree with what I have said here. That is ok. I don’t agree with all of you sometimes either. But the word of God has not changed. Read it, you will see.
Bro Deon if they throw me out I guess you know where to find me. God bless each and every one of you who is reading this. You are my brothers in Christ and I love each and every one of you. But we have to get serious about serving the Lord. Peoples eternal souls are at stake.
If anyone would like to pray, or talk, or like to hear more about Jesus or the Bible, you may reach me hear on these Forums and my profile will lead you to me eventually. After Elijah victory over the prophets of Baal he went and hid in a cave.  He thought he was the only man standing for God and he was very afraid.  God told him that was nonsense ... he always has a remmant that will not compromise.  We need to have faith in God; it may not seem like it but nothing escapes His attention and He will make all things work out for good.

I know this is a political discussion board and not a religious, but I couldn’t just let this one pass.

The base question would be what saves us, grace or works?

Also, there is nothing you can do to cause God to love you any more than He already does.

Hello Family Man,
You are absolutely correct. You cannot do anything to make God love you more than he does right now. I don’t know you personally, but your name here implies that you have children. Could you love them more than you already do? You might be happier with them if they did one thing or another that pleased you but you couldn’t actually love them anymore. God loves us with a perfect love. You can’t improve perfection.
As far as the “base question” you mentioned, I will gladly state it is grace. Perfect, matchless, endless, Grace. God’s Grace. We can’t earn grace, anymore than we can earn salvation. They are the good and perfect gifts of God, GIVEN to us, out of the perfect love he has for us, that we were discussing. You can’t earn something that is free! That is impossible. Ask yourself, how does something become free? I have heard it said ” nothing is free”. To an extent this is true. While somethings may be free to us, they were paid for by someone, sometime, somewhere. Salvation and Grace are the same. They are extended to us for free, “AT NO COST TO YOU”. Maybe we could take license and use the term “PRE-PAID”. I am sure you get the picture. The cost of salvation was the price of a perfect lamb to be sacrificed to cover the cost. It was paid when Christ died on the cross. For God above to allow his SON, his only Son to die to pay the cost for us, a cost that WE could NOT PAY, even if we try our best. Now, THAT my friend,,,,,, is GRACE!
Works….You can go to any church , any community, and you could poll all the members of the same as to who of them is the hardest worker for the church, or for the Lord. In many cases you would probably get a short list. All too often there are but a handfull in even the largest churchs that do all or most of the work that gets done. Church members today do not have that inward desire to serve that our fathers and grandfathers and mothers did. ( not only for the church..just work period). But notice I said “church members”. If we really love the Lord, if we really have a concept, an appreciation of the COST that was paid for our “free salvation” then we will also posess an ingrained desire to serve and to fulfill the great commision and do GOD’S WORK. The work that he has comanded us to do.
I really admire professional gospel singers. I sing semi-pro/ part-time and it can be tough at times. I can only imagine the sacrifices that they make to do this full-time. But we have to consider, is this what God wants us to do? If we believe that God wants us to pastor, or teach, or be the custodian, or the choir director, or work with the youth or help out at the nursing home, but we are instead trying to serve in another capacity, then we are out of touch with God’s will for our lives. OUT OF THE WILL OF GOD! Not a good place to be. Especially for one who knows where God wants them.
So, works may get you the admiration of your peers, or of the congregation, or the pastor, or many others. But ...It won’t get you into heaven. “For it is by GRACE through FAITH you are saved, NOT of works lest any man should boast”. I want to be real careful here, I would hate for some good Baptist Deacon, or Elder to read this and have an epiphany (actually that might be good) then next Sunday everyone show up for morning services or Sunday school and the building be locked, or the grass not mowed. You can’t out give God. If we are trying to buy our salvation or buy God’s favor, we insult him! We are trying to compare our halfhearted miserable efforts to the matchless Grace he has bestowed unto us. We are comparing our minescule service to the sacrifice and death of his only Son! Well I can tell you one thing, it’s a good thing that he loves us. It is also a good thing that I am not God! Because such a weak, moot, irrelevant comparison, to the begifted, sacrificial death of my only child, would only confirm the fact that we aren’t worth saving! We would ALL be going straight to HELL! AND WE ARE, but for the Grace of God!!! Hallelujaah!!!
The King of ALL KINGS has found favor with me! He has cleansed my filthy rags and has CLOTHED me in his LOVE! I am the prodigal son, and HE is cooking up the fatted calf!
No my friend, we can not out give God. But, we can give of ourselves unto him. We WILL if we truly love him. You cannot love him, and not appreciate and thank him. You cannot love HIM, unless we humble ourselves to where we realize that OUR WORKS are as filthy rags compared to his GLORY.
I think Family Man just wanted to see if he could get an Old preacher boy fired up!
Thats alright, I want to be fired up about Jesus. I want to work, I want to serve, I want to walk, with him, for him, beside him!!!  OHHHH praise God!  NOT for recognition!!!! But just to please him. Just to be a little bit closer to him. Just to know him! We have to be careful more today than ever, that we are serving, and serving with a RIGHT SPIRIT. Serving him out of love for him, appreciation of him, of his Grace, of the Gift that he gave us. Jesus didn’t have to die on that old Cross. HE WAS GOD IN FLESH! HE Could Have Called 10,000 ANGELS and had them pull the Nails from his hands. When he cried FATHER, if it be thy will let this cup pass from ME<>>>PRAISE GOD he YEILDED to GODS will, even facing death!!! WE Cant even yield to God’s will facing a pay cut or the IRS!!! Even in that final hour he was making the case for us to YIELD to God! Not My Will But THINE!! HALLELUJAH!
We get us a new car, a new house, a better job, or better paycheck! Then we think we’re something.
I was ‘bout to start preachin’  GB

Thanks for your post.  I agree with you whole heartedly.  You have made me realize that I am guilty of some of the very things I believe should not be part of a Christian’s life, in particular the TV ball games and sin promoting commercials.  We all need prayer and to pray and the country needs CHRIST ” NOW” or we will fall soon.

What the country needs is for Christians to stop selling out and buying into the politically correct agenda.  Michael Combs says it best.  Preachers preach the Word in season and out of season.
