Whatever happened to the Men Of Music quartet? I had bought their early CDs and enjoyed their singing.  A recent search for information found that their website is “inactive.” Does anyone know the status of that outstanding quartet?

I can’t answer your question, but I remember a few years back my pastor gave me one of their CD’s (I think he knew them) and it was one of the better groups I have ever heard, bar none. Weren’t they from Alabama? They reminded me a little of some of the early Imperials.

I googled and saw where they were looking for a tenor back in May 07, but their domain shows up expired.

I too would be interested in knowing if they are still around.

They are still looking for a tenor. I talked to one of their members this week.

Good tenors are hard to find.

Here’s the information as best I can recall it . . .Men of Music actually started in Austin, TX in the late 1990’s by Cleon Yates. Cleon is a life-long lover and singer of classic quartet music and once he became wealthy and sold his business interests, he decided to put the best group he could put together on the road. After attending the Charlie Waller Old Time Gospel shindig he spoke with Buddy Burton, Jim Wesson and Bobby Clark about putting together a group and they did, along with young Chris West, Chris’s second pro group after Silent Power. They located in Austin, TX.

Some years later after some personnel turnover and such, Cleon sold the group to Mike Bullock, who was the bass singer at the time and Mike relocated it to his home area of Alabama. Since then I’ve not really heard anything from them at all so I didn’t even realize there was a possibility they were still traveling. Cleon Yates currently sings with a group he helped form called Master’s Song, based in Austin.

There’s a video on YouTube with them from 1998.  In my opinion they were a very good quartet.  A couple of years ago before their website closed down I believe they had several CDs for sale.  Now, it’s almost as if they never existed.

I saw the Men Of Music several times at the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion, and Mike Bullock is one of my favorite bass singers.  I hope he is still singing somewhere.

I believe they are still singing, not quite as actively, Mike Bullock’s wife, Carolyn, has had some serious health issues the last few years. Mike has been taking a lot of time at home with Carolyn during her illness. Greg, their baritone singer is a friend of mine and I know they are still singing but not as much as they once did.

I saw Jim a few months back on the Johnny High Country Revue Show on TV. Johnny always has someone sing a gospel song in the middle of the show and one day I was watching it for some reason and Jim was on there singing some gospel classic. Can’t remember what. He was also sans hairpiece . . . He must be living in the Dallas area as that show originates from Arlington, TX.

Mike is a great Bass singer ,i agree, and one of those nice guys that never get the recognition they deserve.

I think years ago I heard a song by Men of Music, called “eternity there"(I think it was by them). Unless I’m thinking of another song, some lyrics were something like “New Jerusalem, city four square/ don’t you want to /spend eternity there”. Never heard that song anywhere since, but I think it was on the top 80.

I think that song’s been on a Gaither video somewhere along the line.
