Hey, if any of you happened to remember, I do live and work in America’s Latest Underwater City, lovely Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Just wanted my friends at SGN to know that I’m all right. I’m typing right now from my basement office, which is wet and smelly from ground saturation, but I live nowhere near the Cedar River, which has overflowed to its 500 Year Flood Plain.

Everywhere I go, I see homes and businesses and churches underwater. It’s surreal. The Cedar River crested today at approximately 32 feet, which is 12 feet about the previous record set in 1929. That’s 17 feet above the river’s banks.

Keep us in prayer. Other that a damp basement and one of our cars which broke down because of (most likely) a wet distributor, we’re okay, but we have water restrictions on, and the drinking water supply is critically low.

Thanks guys,

Chris

Chris,

My prayers are with you during this time. I can only imagine what it is like there and my heart goes out to you. I live in SE Michigan and the weather in this area has been devastating in some places near here. We have been blessed and God has watched over us. There has been damage from high winds here locally, but our household has been spared thus far.

Blessings,

Gwen

Chris,

I tried to call you on your cell phone several times earlier today - and there was no service available in your city at that time.

I was away tonight, and I’ll be away much of the rest of the weekend - but I’ll be in prayer and will try to reach you again when I can.

The news reports look terrible.  Glad to know you are ok.  We will be praying for everyone affected.

Chris - prayers continue for your area.  How are things going for you?  Any updates would be appreciated.

Most of our downtown, and hence our infrastructure, will take massive rebuilding and most of the businesses and government offices downtown will probably never again exist at their former locations.

I got lucky. I just had some minor flooding in my basement, not caused by the floods but by the torrential rains coupled with ground seepage. We had pretty severe water restrictions here for a week, so we couldn’t take showers or wash clothes.

The downtown area, plus the residential neighborhoods in the “500 year flood plain” are dry now, but it looks like a bomb went off. All the houses have garbage piled up in the yards where people threw out wet and damaged furniture, clothes, appliances, and just plain garbage. It all smells like raw sewage and dead fish. The ground in those areas is covered with maggots, and I’m told you have to wear a mask because the air is so toxic.

But, like I said, I’m okay. Keep us in your prayers, though. Every time it starts to rain, we go into shell shock, “Oh, no. Not again.”

Thanks for your update Chris!

Those of us with dry basements can’t even begin to imagine what y’all are going thru.  Will definitely continue to pray for all affected.
