Kenneth Copeland has taken his argument public against Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa). He has opened a website http://www.BelieversStandUnited.com to give his side of the story.
In my opinion, Grassley is overstepping is bounds by having the Senate investigate ministries. If he wants these six ministries investigated then he should have the IRS do it. Interestingly, with all of the misuse of “separation of Church and State” arguments, this is a valid condition for the State staying out of the church’s business.
This is not a religious question. We are NOT going to discuss what you think about the theology of these six ministries, only about Grassley stepping over his bounds or not. The IRS has already thoroughly investigated all of these ministries and it really appears that Grassley is going on a witch hunt that he has no authority to do.
What is interesting is that Copeland is willing to turn over all the information Grassley wants to the IRS, where Grassley could view everything he wants, but could not make it public. This is where I smell a rat. It appears for whatever reason, Grassley wants to be able to make private information about these six ministries public that he has not right to do.
Of course the question is, “Where does it stop?”. Is your church or your ministry next. It’s time that the true meaning of “the wall of separation of Church and State” be used for it’s real purpose.
