I personally believe that everything changed in Viet Nam because of the media presence. It was the first time the war was pumped into our living rooms. WWI and WWII would have been lost if we had to use the same restraint as we do now. We aren’t able to do what it takes to soundly defeat our enemy anymore.
We turned the tide of WWII by dropping atomic bombs on two cities. We would have lost without it. The Japanese were only days from hitting us with similar devastation. Do you honestly believe any other nation would “use restraint” if battles were being fought on our soil? Until the liberals and media allow soldiers to use all available force to defeat our enemies, we will continue to see Viet Nam’s and Iraq’s in every conflict.
Ah, FamilyMan, on this we are in complete agreement. Times have changed forever, and sometimes not necessarily for the good, because of the instant communications we have today.
This new instant communication, be it cable news or internet, allows us to only see the immediate picture and NOT the big picture, therefore we don’t always get the whole truth. This is especially true when the news media puts a political spin on the news story. Today’s media seems to want to put their personal political spin on the news, rather than just reporting the news.
