All,

While I am here in Iraq working for the Army, I am driving an older vehicle that has a cassette deck.  So, my wife sent me some of my old cassettes.  One she sent is the compilation recording, “That’s Why We’re Here!” The title song features 4 different basses singing the, “That’s why”, part each time.  After listening to this over and over, I think I have finally figured out who sings when.

First time - Tim Riley
Second time - Rex Nelon
Third Time - Ray Dean Reese
Fourth Time - J. D. Sumner

I am guessing that there are knowledgeable folks here who were either there or involved with the recording that could verify what my ears are telling me.

Anyone?

I don’t have any guesses for you, but I can say - blessings to you as you serve in Iraq!!  Praying for your safety.

Sally,

Thank you for your kind words and prayers.  They are both very much appreciated.

I was there but I don’t recall Rex Nelon. Kelly was there but she was a Benson solo artist at the time.

I actually think the 2nd time was Paul Heil. I remember reading something about it during that time.

That’s a pretty cool bit of trivia if it’s true.

Thanks to all who replied.  I was assuming 4 different people.  However, the Riley, Sumner, Reese, Sumner set works, as I had a hard time picking 2 or 4 as Sumner.  Chapel, does this jog your memory any.

You were there?  A singer?
We’ve Come To Worship was another Riversong recording that I still enjoy listening to to this day.

My nephew, Dave Clark, wrote and produced the song, so I wrote and asked him. His reply was, “I wrote it and produced the master but haven’t listened to it in years.  Those were the four bass singers (Tim Riley, Rex Nelon, Ray Dean Reese, J.D. Sumner), just don’t remember which order they were in.”

Dave should know if he produced it but I sure did not hear anyone that sound like Rex when I listened to it.

Not sure it sounded like Rex either, but was fairly certain it wasn’t JD twice.  Rex was the only name I could come up with, since I knew Kelly was there.

Anyway, thanks to all for their responses.  I have enjoyed the disucssion.
