From what I’ve read, radio listenership, particularly in the Christian Genre, has increased over the past five years.
The problem is that SGM doesn’t attract the SG stations attract fewer listeners then a Christian AC station.
Now to stir up the dust
......
Artists like to point at radio as the reason for lack of sales, exposure and poor concert attendance. This is probably true to some extent. However, equally true is that the most artists fail to deliver an audience to radio. The reason that we play your music and pay the fees is to attract an audience. (that’s a period there - no other reason - without an audience we don’t pay the bills and we don’t minister the Word. No audience - no radio - no ministry.) I challenge the artists out there to develop an audience THEN come to radio. What have you done for radio lately????
I ask all of the artists, promotors, record company execs reading this, do you support SG radio? Do you advertise in the local paper or on the local SG radio station when you have a concert or a new CD? Record labels - where do you advertise? Does a billboard effectively reach your audience or does it flatter the ego and take money from radio? Money is spent on print, internet, and billboards to promote your groups and songs but you neglect spending on radio. What’s up with that? Radio is expected to drive the business but the business does’t support radio.
Ask not what radio can do for you, but what can you do for radio?
