“ Dear friends, fans, and supporters of The Chuck Wagon Gang,

We are contacting you to advise you of a situation which we feel that you, the friends, fans, and supporters of The Chuck Wagon Gang should know. We recently learned that the National Quartet Convention board voted on which groups should perform in 2008 and determined that we, along with several other groups, would not be appearing on the main stage at Freedom Hall for the National Quartet Convention to be held in Louisville, KY in September 2008. Instead, we were offered a spot on a Saturday noon showcase, which is separately ticketed. (Showcases are normally smaller events at NQC for the up-and-coming groups and soloists.) “

I have loved the Chuck Wagon Gang for as long as I can remember.

Keep plugging! Don’t give up! Remember everything eventually comes back in style!
With a showcase performance you will probably see more true fans of the group.

God Bless

CCS,
You’re correct about that. The fact of the matter is that when the CWG has taken the main stage at NQC in recent years, half the fans there have stood up and left. Nothing against the group, I’m sure...they just aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. A showcase slot makes a lot more sense.

Unfortunately, when you read the whole article, you’ll see that the CWG chose to decline the showcase slot and won’t be at NQC at all unless NQC changes their mind about the main stage appearance. They’re wanting people to write to NQC to complain, but it’s the CWG who has made the final choice not to be there. Any fan who complains to NQC about this should also complain to the group for turning down what they were offered.

Contrary to the statement in the CWG’s article, showcases aren’t limited to soloists and new artists. Some of the most popular events at NQC are thematic showcases featuring some of the top groups and individual performers. Last year on Saturday, for example, they had Pianorama and a 50th Anniversary showcase featuring the Hoppers.

It seems to me (just my opinion)--that if the Chucks are on a showcase (for those who wish to hear them) - why not put one of the other groups
(Bluegrass group performing Tuesday AND Wed. nights) on a showcase instead of main stage.  I’ve never understood why THAT group is on main stage TWO nights!!!  I guess because the NQC board put them there??
