Q: This SG song was originally recorded by Brian Free and Assurance, then recorded a year or two later by another artist. The cover artist sang the last lines of the second verse with different lyrics than BFA. What is the song? And who was/were the second artist?

P.S. I might be wrong about who did the song originally, but I am 99% sure that BFA did it before the second artist I mentioned).

I am thinking of a song called “Who is this King” that was done by Brian
Free and Assurance.  This song was later recorded by either the Carolina Boys or
Kingsmen with the same singer singing the lead.............cannot remember his name
just now.

Since I posted this earlier, I am having second thoughts
about who did the song the second time.
This probably is not the song you have in mind, either.

That isn’t the song I was thinking of. Let me know if you think it needs more clues. I thought about adding a clue to who covered the song, but that clue might make it too easy.

Maybe a clue to when it was first recorded by Brian Free & Assurance.  You remember that
there were 2 different groups with Brian going back to soloist for a while in between.

It was the old BFA, before 1999.

Do you mean old BFA as in quartet consisting of Bob Caldwell, John McBroom, Kevin McCaw (lead singer) & Brian

or
BFA quartet consisting of Caldwell, LeFevre, McCaw, & Brian

or
BFA quartet consisting of Caldwell, McBroom, Randy Crawford, & Brian
(all of these quartet versions were before 1999)
or

original BFA trio consisting of Free, Kevin Price, & Lefevre?

Ernie Haase recorded “What A Difference A Day Makes” on a solo project and then was recorded later by Brian Free & Assurance with the personnel of Brian Free, Randy Crawford, John McBroom & Bob Caldwell.
