I agree the Tigers let it slip away but it was nice to be on top for a week. This whole situation just begs for a playoff. Most MU fans really don’t care about not going to the Orange Bowl. The Cotton works fine because Texas is a huge recruiting area for Mizzou and it’s Chase Daniel’s home town. It actually is perfect. However I think the Tigers will blow the Razorbacks off the field. Their coaching staff is in shambles and Pinkel will be playing up the whole disrespect angle from the BCS which will motivate them even more.
The real travisty in this whole thing is that I think Oklahoma is possibly the best team in the nation. The man handled Mizzou and their only other loss to Texas Tech came because their QB got knocked out in the first quarter. In my opinion OU would beat both Ohio State and LSU.
The big twelve had 8 players named All Americans. Two other conferences had 4, but neither one of them was the SEC. KU had two first teamers and one second teamer.
Regretfully there are no playoffs. LSU has whined its way into the National Championship against an inferior Ohio State. The best two teams in the nation at the present time are Oklahoma and Southern Cal. LSU is probably the fifth best team, but since there is no play off system we will be stuck with an inferior champion.

Boy, the sooners did stink it up. From bowl results I would have to relent and say that the SEC showed well, followed by the big 12. As the only BCS team with one loss (I think Ohio State will have 2) KU can lay claim to the National Championship. I think LSU will win it, but Kansas has a good argument. Personally, I think you can make good arguments for Georgia and West Verginia also. I did think USC had some claim, but their bowl game against an inferior opponent revealed some weakness that a good team could exploit.
The SEC has won National Championships in Football and Basketball for the past two years. I also think that the Tenn women’s team won last year . I believe that speaks for itself. I do not think any team would want to line up against LSU or GA right now. I admit, I was a Kansas believer, to a certain point, but week after week of SEC play would have shown them losing 2 or 3 ballgames. I know that Missouri beat up Arkansas but Missouri was the 2nd best in the BIG 12 and Arkansas was probably no better than 5th or 6th in the SEC. Not to mention being without a coach.
I however believe completely in OK, their game with WV was a shock to me. I believe they may meet GA in the Championship game next year!
KU has two all americans going pro, but will have almost everyone else back. They also have a great class of red shirt freshmen coming in. Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas, Missou will all be good. K-State will be improved as will Colorado. The big twelve will be tough as will the SEC, no doubt. The big 10 (11) is weak as evidenced by the Rose Bowl and Championship game. They always get lots of hype and high rankings, but they just play each other so no one knows if they are any good.
It was a good year in college football and I look forward to next year.

Actually Billswinners, I am not a big LSU fan, but they went in there and proved they were the better team. I was hoping KY would beat UT(Tenn) in their final game of the season so the SEC Championship matchup could be UGA & LSU because by midseason and on UGA got their act together and became the best of the SEC teams. I believe they would have taken LSU in the SEC Championship game and then they would have been the ones playing for and winning the NC. Either way, the Crystal was destined to stay with the SEC. Watch out for UGA next year and Bama in a couple of years to come!
Living in the middle of ACC country, I am definitely not an SEC fan...........but they are the best football conference, in my opinion.
This season cried for a playoff, more than any other. I believe next year will find them adding one game after the four big bowl games, in an attempt to get a champion that everyone (most....lol) can agree with.
The SEC had 9 teams competing in bowl games. 7 won. Florida and Arkansas lost. SC was also bowl eligible. Pretty strong conference. I think the other conferences and sports powers are afraid of a playoff.

Jolene, you might get a wider response of opinions by going to a thread dealing with professional football or maybe even starting one yourself as most visitors to this thread are probably more fans of college sports than the pro teams. I used to follow both the college and pro sports equally but over the past 10-15 years I have become more of a total college football/basketball/baseball fan as pro sports seems to have become even more individual driven instead of team driven.
Let any one of those three play any of the top three SEC teams.
See what happens. SEC is the roughest, toughest conference.
Big 12 only have a big name, small schedules, no competition.
You hit the nail on the head, brother! SEC teams can’t stay in the rankings because they play each other and the competition is so stiff...every SEC game is pretty much a toss-up regardless of what the odds say. For instance, UGA vs. Auburn this weekend...who knows who will win...both are more than capable of blowing the other away, but it will be a defensive game I can assure you that, as opposed to Big 12 and Big 10 where they run up and down the field scoring one after another and end up winning 84-77
OH Please Let Any SEC Team Play a Top Notch big 12 team & 9 out of 10 times They will get enaialted
