Yes! They are GREAT!! Guy has always been one of my favorite male singers! The whole group is awesome though!! I loved them probably best when David Phelps was with them, but they are still awesome!!!

Oh yes, I’ve been a ‘fan’ from the days of The Gaither Trio, with Bill, Gloria & Mike English...Sorry I don’t recall hearing them when Danny G. sang with them… Have also been a ‘fan’ of everyone of The Gaither Trio’s, as above, and the GVB’s too!!

I’ve always liked GVB more than most groups out there just due to the vocal quality. Bill’s voice can kill it for me, but the rest of the vocalists off-set him enough. I think, hands down, my favorite record was Peace Of The Rock. From song selection, to mix, to groove factor, to arrangments, etc. This record still holds up to records being released today. I think it was 1990 or 1991. A Few Good Men was also a great record. Another mentionable is a tune called Count On Me. I think it was on Guy’s first record with the group. I seem to remember a pre-release version of the CD that had Guy singing both verses, then the final release had Bill singing the first verse and Guy singing the second verse. That totally blew my groove, but the song’s still nice. I, also, can’t skip the fact that Michael English is by far the most talented vocalist they’ve ever had. Just my opinion.....but I bet I’m not alone.

Actually Peace of the Rock was 1993.  A Few Good Men was 1990.
That is true about Count on Me from Southern Classics Vol Two.
They did the pre-release with Guy on both then Bill on the final cut.
Michael was very good with GVB.  But the most talented vocalist they’ve ever had is David Phelps.  His range is second to none and without a doubt he brought GVB to another level.  But like you said that is my opinion and everyone has their favs.

My first album of the gaithers is recorded in the 60s I think.  When Amy was a baby, I literally wore that album out.  I cannot give it away, I prize it today.  Danny was an awesome singer.  I went wild over Michael English when he sang “I bowed on my knees and cried holy”.  But I agree that David Phillips is hard to beat.  Bill Gaither has arranged more sounds, albums, shows that are indicative of his mastery.  Who else could put together the people and sounds that are heard on the Homecoming Series.  I like Guy Penrod, Mark Lowry has a great voice.  Bill may not be the best singer, but he sure can spot the best!

For the guy who says he is an expert, I had a Homecoming video filmed at the Ryman Auditorium with Vestal singing “What a lovely Name the Name of Jesus’, then “The Lighthouse” I let my sister talk me out of it, now I can’t find another.  The one I bought to replace it has someone else singing the Lighthouse.  Any idea where I can get one of the first recordings?

You can go to gaither.com and pick it up in their store. Just click on store and type in Ryman in search and you will find it available on both VHS & DVD.
DVD - $19.95 VHS - $14.95.  Enjoy!  This is one of the great videos they have done.  This is also Guy Penrod’s first video appearance.

The GVB are great people and singers,,,but i am afraid they are going in the contemporary direction along with Ernie and the guys,,,all great guys,,but i prefer the old time southern gospel quartet style!!

I have projects that I listen to more than others by the GVB. Don’t care too much for the joint project with EHSS, but to each their own! Loved “Give It Away.”

I am another GVB fan.  But like the post above, I really enjoy the old time SG quartets.

I love the Gaither Vocal Band and their variety of styles.  What I would really love is to be able to go to a concert featuring ONLY the Vocal Band.  I’ve been to a GVB/EH&SS;concert and I enjoyed it, but I’d like it even more if it were ONLY GVB!!
