I posted this in another forum, and thought I might get some input here…

An old friend of mine involved in church music ministry was discussing the future of Southern Gospel...where is it going? It occured to me that I seem to get hung on exactly what SG is. I grew up in a time before “Southern” was added, and for me gospel music was quartet music. That does not seem to fit these days. Modent SG seems to be a cross between the past with a strong modern country influence. There is a strong bluegrass element, too.

Is it a certain style? Or is it more defined by its audience? Some groups classed as SG would seem to fit in in a CCM environment, but do not perform at those venues. Someone once mentioned it was all styles of music, more or less being unique by virtue of having a certain audience.

What do you think? Lots of discussion welcome...smile
