The Oak Ridge Boys “Didn’t It Rain” radio single debuted at # 47 in the Singing News charts for the first time in 30 years.  Looks like ole Rick Hendrix did his magic again getting the first secular artist charted in the SN charts in who knows how many years.

The Boys have gone back to their roots.  To their credit the Oaks have always maintained a family friendly act.  They have always professed their faith, and have at times interjected some SG into their country concerts.  I am so happy to see them returning to the groups SG roots.  Bear in mind, that in addition to being connected to the original group by name and association, that the boys each have their own individual connections to SG, particularly Joe and Richard, with theirbackground together in the Keystone Quartet, and in the Stamps w/ JD.

Richard was in the Eastman Quartet in addition to the Stamps (Joe wasn’t wink) and Keystone Quartet / Keystones. Joe was in the Faith Four, Keystone Quartet, / Keystones. Duane was in the Southernairs and was the baritone in the Prophets for around 6 months to a year. He joined the Oaks in May of 1966 where he has been ever since. William Lee sang with the Pilots Trio.

Deon, Rick might have had something to do with it, but bear in mind that Salem buying out Singing News had a lot to do with it to. They weren’t even allowed to be considered for a chart no matter how much airplay they had until fairly recently. I think they would have been on there prior had they been eligible.

The single.. “Didn’t It Rain” is from the “FRONT ROW SEATS” CD.. great CD produced by Michael Sykes.  Mostly a country CD..  but plenty of “positive” tunes.. and at least one more I hope to see released to SG radio.

This CD.. and the OAKS “Voices” presently are rotating in my truck CD player.
