In the past few days I have been seeing pictures posted on a SGM singer’s “page” on a “social networking” site. Do not worry - I will not post the name of either the site or the artist. At first they started out as just pictures of the artist with many friends of the same gender. What has me convinced is that these same friends - all with arms snuggly around each other AND the singer - keep appearing over and over. Now there are pictures of the person at a function that promotes gay, lesbian, bi, and transgender lifestyles. There has been nothing “overtly sexual”, but those picts along with statments the person has made and a quote on the person’s page lead me to believe that the “closet door” is opening. From other pictures on this person’s site, they are continuing to “minister thru song” in churches.

What do I do? Do I contact the person privately (they wouldn’t kow me from Adam), and ask if this is the case???? I know we are to love the person and hate the sin. But, if the “lifestyle” is being lived and “ministry” continues, I surely couldn’t support this person’s ministry suspecting what I suspect.

Lastly, I guess (and it shouldn’t be last - it should be first) - we should all be praying for this artist. God knows who it is.

oh - and before anyone gets hurt jumping to conclusions, it is NOT the name that might leap immediately to mind.

I wanted to throw out a question to interested parties. Has anyone but me noticed that very often, when someone advertises for singers needed for a group, that they always seem to want someone between their 20’s and middle 40’s? I wonder why those of us who have sang for the Lord for many years and are now older than our mid 40’s are apparently no longer worth consideration? Just wondering out loud. What do you think?

Alan Brewster (bass for Southern Sound) and I went to hear Gold City Wednesday night at Tusculeum HIlls Baptist Church. (Triva: This is where Jake Hess and much of his family went to church when he lived in Nashville, and I too was a member there during that time) The start time was a bit unusal at 7:45pm, as I had never seen that before. Anyway, back to Gold City, they had their new tenor Chris Cooper for his first ever performance with GC, and he did a great job. I could detect no first night jitters or any case of the “nerves” in him. Their new lead singer, whose name I will never try to spell or pronounce, did a wonderful job as well. I spent a brief few minutes saying hello to my old friends Aaron McCune and Danny Riley (who was suffering from severe chest congestation) and Danny proved to be a real trooper for inspite of his ailments, he did a good job. He also carried the emcee position very well, and my hat tip to him, he spoke many times of the need for accepting Christ as your Savior still without being too preachie. We don’t hear enough of that these days. Now, I have long considered Aaron to be one fine bass, and Wednesday night he proved that once again. If I have a complaint with GC, and mind you it is not a complaint as much as an observation, I would love for Aaron to be allowed to be more of the Aaron type bass I grew to love when he was with a former quartet, ie more of a Big Chief style than a Gold City style. But mind you it is just my observation. I really think Aaron is one of the finest going today, and he doesn’t get the credit he deserves in my humble opinion. All in all they did a great job. And considering Danny was under the weather, and they were breaking in a new tenor for the first night, they did an superb job. The church was nearly full, including the balcony. Great job guys, Danny, hope you get to feeling better. YOur pal Ben.
