Gene and Ann Young are a wonderful couple who have dedicated themselves to promoting Southern Gospel music. Their love story is remarkable and their love for the Lord is strong. As YoungSong, they have striven to take Southern Gospel Music back to the church.

Their new project Come with Me to Calvary is full of some great Country and Southern Gospel songs, all written by Gene and Ann. They get the project started with a driving song, “We Are the Church”. This song has a great track and they sing it well. The title tune, “Come with Me to Calvary” is a nice Country Gospel song that will remind you a little of a George Jones/Tammy Wynette song.

They keep the tempo up with the song, “Places”. “It Still Takes the Blood” is the first ballad on the project. This is a good song with strong lyrics. “Ask for Grace” is another mid tempo Country style song.

“The Mountains Declare It” is a fun bluegrass style song that keeps the tempo up. There are a lot of fiddles, mandolins and dobros on this song. “Expect a Miracle” keeps the beat going and is a more traditional Country Gospel song.

“That Child” is a mid tempo song that speaks about children both born and unborn and how God views them and our nation’s handling of the abortion and child abuse issue. “Searching” is a nice ballad that includes a touching recitation about an old farm hand that tried to go to church and was turned away because of his appearance. Fortunately, the story in this song is positive because the gentleman does not turn away but calls on the Lord.

“I Wonder How He Felt” is a traditional Country style tune and features some good duet singing. “Holy One I Come to Praise” is a very worshipful ballad and is a nice addition to the project. “I Will Follow the Lamb” features Ann on the vocals and is a very pretty ballad. They close the project off with “One By One”, a mid tempo song featuring Gene.

YoungSong has a heart for ministering to the church. They have joined with several other regional artists to form Magnify Ministries and are taking Southern Gospel into areas where many will not go. This project reflects this desire. If you like good, solid, straight forward Country Gospel music, you will enjoy this recording.
