Woody Wright - “Woodrow Wilson Wright”
If there is an eccentric person in the gospel music world, he has a name and it’s Woody Wright. I don’t say that in a bad light, because Woody has his own singing style and his very own writing style. No one writes a song quite like Woody, and this recording is a testament to that fact as he wrote all 11 songs on this recording and each bares his unique trademark sound and writing style. Woody has a strong country sound and is evidenced in such songs as ”HE’S THERE”, ”WHO CARES?”, ”THE JOY HE’S GIVEN ME” and ”STAY WITH JESUS.” ”SOUTHERN GOSPEL FAN” is worth whatever price you pay for this CD. This song probably describes 99% of those who are dyed in the wool Southern Gospel fans. Nowhere on Earth will you find fans like those of Southern Gospel Music. ”OLD FRIEND” is a tender ballad and is a nice song reflecting on the friendships that we have. Also in a similar vein of love and friendship is the song written for his sweetie called “FOREVER MY LOVE WILL LAST”. Showing off Woody’s eccentric side, ”I WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN” is a comical song written on the subject thousands of songs have been written on. This song is priceless…"if the marriage supper was a happy meal, I’d still want to go there…if the only music ever heard was ‘N sync, I’d still want to go there.” Another song that falls into the same eccentric category is the weighty ”ONE POUND AT A TIME.” Lord knows I live this song everyday! Recently singled by Paid in Full, Woody turns in his own rendition of ”FATHER’S HOUSE” and is a wonderful song of restoration. Rounding out this collection of tunes is the song ”QUIET TIME.” If you’re looking for a recording to make you feel good and is fun to listen to, this is the one to have. I won’t say there are a lot of profound, deep gospel messages found here, but there are some good messages and songs about life from Woody’s perspective. Maybe this recording should have been titled, “The Gospel According to Woody.” Reader Comments
