The Whisnants are one of the most consistent groups in Southern Gospel Music. For several years they have continually put out first class music and their songs have constantly found a home at the top of the charts. This newest release continues that trend and once again they have hit a home run with another first class recording. Actually, this is probably their best work to date, as a couple of songs seem to break the mold with what is typical Whisnants music. But yet, they stay within the realm of what stylistically is their calling card.
The recordings starts off with the uptempo "WHEN THE MORNING BREAKS" and then moves on to the easy flowing Rodney Griffin tune, "HE LEFT IT ALL" which was recorded a few years ago by Greater Vision.
The Whisnants have definitely found a niche with big ballads, and "A GREATER YES" (which I expect we will see in the top of the charts next year) and "I WONDER IF YOU KNOW" fill their spots as the big ballads on this recording. Naturally the sweet vocals of Susan Whisnant are featured on both songs.
The first single from the recording is the energetic title song, "NEW DAY DAWNING" and is one of those songs that is a slight departure from the norm musically for the Whisnants. Written by Joel Lindsey, this is a delightful tune that will do very well for the group and is one that you'll be singing long after the music stops.
Jeff Whisnant is featured on the Rebecca Peck penned tune, "NEVERTHELESS" and is a wonderful song portraying the message that though I was lost and undone, "nevertheless, Christ loved me."
THANK YOU SAYS IT BEST" reminds me of a song the Whisnants recording about 5 years ago called "I'll Say Thanks" (which was also recorded by Gold City a couple years ago) and Aaron Hise does a good job on the song. Another uniquely sounding song for the Whisnants is called, "HEAVEN'S LAMB", which was recently recorded by Eighth Day , and the Whisnants do a super job on the song.
Jeff is featured on the uptempo, "WHEN I RESTED IN THE LORD" before reviving a Whisnants favorite from a dozen years ago entitled, "GRAND OPENING SOON" (it was great to hear this song once more!)
The upbeat "HE KNOWS MY NAME" features a little of each member of the Whisnants before things close out with the victorious song of thankfulness, "THANK GOD FOR GRACE".
One thing I would love to see is someone like Steve Mauldin to come in and help produce the Whisnants and hear them sing with some real orchestrations. That would be the ultimate for me. But still, this will be one of those recordings that will last for 2-3 years because there are a ton of radio possibilities on this recording. I know of at least 6 songs on here that I can see hitting radio; though I'm sure only 3-4 songs will make it to the airwaves. If you've never taken in the music of the Whisnants, this will be the perfect introduction. For those who are fans of the Whisnants, this will be marked down as one of the best, it not THE best!
