Tony Gore - Can’t Stop
The release of a new Tony Gore project is always a happy time for me. The man that Solid Gospel refers to as “the man with a tear in his voice” delivers songs with more emotion and passion that just about anybody else. This project is no exception. It’s Tony’s first release since going solo, and it lays a solid foundation for things to come. The project was produced by Tony and the talented Jimmy Tarbutton. It is a good mixture of encouraging, heart-felt songs. Oh, How The Sun Does Shine is the first cut. Anyone who has ever struggled through troubles and trials to see the Lord come through as they see the dawn break on a new glorious day will certainly relate to this song of encouragement. If you love dreaming of Heaven and all it’s beauty and splendor, as I do, then I Will will get you going! It is followed by I Can Say, a song of encouragement and affirmation of God’s faithfulness. Tony reminds us next of God’s protection and safe keeping in the upbeat Ark Of Safety. The Word reminds us that we should bear one another’s burdens. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your burdens and needs a brother or sister to help you through, you’ll identify with I Need Your Prayers. Shadow Of A Great Rock reminds us that our Lord Jesus, our cleft in the Rock, our Shelter is there to save and shelter us from whatever may besiege us. The song from which the title of the project was taken, Walk A Little Farther is an upbeat affirmation of faith to keep pressing on, knowing we are getting closer to home with every step. Every Christian remembers exactly where they were and the circumstances that led to them asking Jesus into their hearts. Those who have experienced that touch of God in our hearts can remember, with Tony, with all the emotion of that place that is Dear To Me. I believe Ricky Atkinson is one of the most anointed songwriters in Southern Gospel Music today. This Is The Mountain is a great Ricky Atkinson song of God’s grace, both the grace He showed Abraham in sparing Isaac, and the grace He showered on the world through Jesus’ sacrifice. It’s so easy with human rationalizing and thinking, and especially with some help from the enemy to come to the conclusion that we have gone too far, done too much, or been to bad to ever qualify for God’s saving love. Tony closes out the project by reminding us that It Doesn’t Matter how far you’ve gone, who you are, or what you’ve done, but because of Who Jesus is, we can be free and start all over again. This is a good, solid project that’s definitely a keeper. It has good songwriting, excellent production, and of course, Tony. The only thing missing for me was a good Tony Gore barn-burner in the genre of “Put On A Crown.” But this project obviously comes from the heart, and there will be many more projects from Tony Gore. I know I’ll get my barn-burner. Personal Faves: This Is The Mountain, Oh, How The Sun Does Shine, and Ark of Safety.

I just Tony's new CD today and I absolutely love it. He sings all of his songs from the heart. I think this is the best album he has released. Although, I do agree with Bob. I was hoping for a song sort of like "I'll Put On A Crown"! But, I still love him and the album!

I thought the album was good. It was typical Tony Gore. I find a lot of his songs carry a very similar message and theme and they, at times, tend to sound a lot alike. But he has a VERY strong following and I am sure this recording will do very well for him. I think Tony's finest recording since leaving the Wilburns was Majesty's first one, "Cool, Clear Water." THAT was a classy sounding CD!
I give this one 3 1/2 stars. But, I think 4 is fair...depends on the person.

Bob,I do not think that Tony and Jimmy Tarbutton know how to produce a bad album.I love it.I know we just talked about this at the list.I think the folks should know that Tony has released a new song to radio from this project. It is my favorite,"Oh How The Sun Does Shine".It is a different style song from Larry Petree. And it is as "retro" as they come.It has a neat 1950's soft rock ballad arrangment. When it hits radio folks should give it a listen and if they like it.They should request it.
