Producer- The Masters Four
The Masters Four is a group that I don’t have much information on. They have put together a new project filled with 10 cover songs.
“Precious Savior” starts the project off with a nice ensemble song. These guys have some nice harmony. They follow this song up with another slower song, the classic, “This Is Just What Heaven Means to Me”. The track on this one was dated a little but the song was sung relatively well. Cut number three is the great Dad Speer song, “Heaven’s Jubilee”.
They have included the very pretty worship song, “We Are So Blessed”. This allows them to sing some nice, smooth harmonies. “Midnight Cry” follows and is sang well. It’s often difficult to review cover material when groups are doing established arrangements and signature songs of other artists. These guys stay within themselves and do a more than acceptable job on these songs.
“’Til the Last One Is Home” is a traditional quartet song that allows their bass singer to showcase his vocals. I am not familiar with this song but they do some nice harmony work on it. “I Rest My Case at the Cross” is one of the best songs to come along in awhile. The guys do some pretty singing on this one.
They have included a song that I haven’t heard in many years but I have always enjoyed it. “Without Jesus” is a nice mid tempo ballad with a country flair. Rex Nelon first introduced the song, “I Love to Call His Name” to Gospel audiences. A few years ago, the Kingdom Heirs brought back this old song. The Masters Four do a nice job on this song.
They close the project out with “He Will Hide Me”, a nice ballad with some good orchestration.
I would be interested in knowing more about this group. They are an above average regional quartet but their project gives me very little information as to where their base of operation is. This is a very listenable project done with lease tracks. I believe that quartet fans would enjoy it.
