The Hoskins Family - Places To Go, People To See
“Going to another level musically” seems to be an everytime happening when the Hoskins Family record. This CD is no exception. Stylistically they have gone to another level that they have never achieved before. This CD stretched them vocally with things I never thought they would be doing, but they are doing them as good as anyone I’ve heard. Included on this CD are some good ole Campmeeting style songs, which would include the opening song “Ordinary Sunday.” There is an incredible ballad performed in typical Angie style, and interpreted as only she can. Not only would “Places To Go, People To See” make a great radio release, but this song will reach out and touch your heart. There is a very nice hymn featuring Reva. “The Palm Of His Hand” is very worshipful, and will fit into any church service. Jim takes the lead on a traditional Southern Gospel song. “The Sound Of His Voice” has a message of hope, and Jim does a splendid job expressing this song. Sheri LaFontaine has penned a very interesting song about heaven which features Angie. “What Are You Doing Right Now?” will have you singing along and you’ll find yourself thinking about someone who has already gone to heaven. Rick is featured on “My God Is Able” and this cut would do great on radio also. You will hear some really tight harmony on this one. My favorite song is “Pray Down The Power”. What a message this song has. The track is driving from start to finish, add a choir in the background, some fancy stereo effects (especially with headphones on), and a little bit of “Soul” by Jim and Angie, and you have one great song. I really hope they release this one to radio. The CD ends with a cute song by Angie and her daughter. “How Did God Know” will have every Mother grabbing for a box of Kleenex. Other songs include “I’m Believin”, “I’ll Pray You On Your Way”, and “Somebody’s Praying Right Now”. Reader Comments
I agree with Deon's rating of 4 stars. This is a very solid project that mixed group fans should really enjoy . . . I think it leans towards a slightly more traditional SG style than their previous release. It's not as traditional as the Wilburns or the Perrys, but it's closer to Hoppers territory than Martins.

The Hoskins Family ROCKS. This album has to be one of the best Southern Gospel projects I have ever heard. I think it raises the bar for Southern Gospel Music. City Limits is my favorite cut off of the album.

This is a GREAT listening CD. What impresses me the most is the versatility of styles. Not every artists can do this effectively. The Hoskins Family have done it again. I expect to see several chart toppers from this release. I also want to add that Angie gets a lot of credit for the vocal foundation of the group, and this is very much deserved. She is an incredible talent. But I have to say that Jim is becoming one of my favorite male singers in this genre. He really shines on this CD.
