“Immortal, Invincible” starts this album off on the right foot. Great instrumentation and clean tight harmonies get you excited to hear the rest of this project. “Father’s House,” a more relaxed tune written by Daryl Williams and John Darin Rowsey hits just the right note for a second cut. Showing off their impressive unison skills, “Walking in the Will” is yet another enjoyable tune. To tell you the truth, this is my first time hearing these guys, and they impressed me right away. I didn’t know their name, but I do now! Traditional SG lovers will enjoy this album, and even those who prefer the progressive style will appreciate the talent. This is happy music!
“Go to that land” would be a great radio release, with its swing and country style. “One scared hand,” another medium tempo song, was penned by Kyla Rowland. The guys do a great job delivering the lyrics of this moving tune. “I’ve been to the Well” picks things back up, showcasing the group’s bass singer. Darrell Young has a strong, full tone and range. “If it wasn’t for the Cross,” the first true ballad, builds to a powerfully creative ending. The title cut, “Traveling Light” written by Rebecca J. Peck is a rather enjoyable song choice. The tempo and fiddle touches seem to capture the very spirit of the lyrics in this toe tappin’ tune. The vocals are truly wonderful on this. You just can’t help but smile!
Other cuts to mention are, “Somewhere in Gloryland,” “Stay the Course,” and “In the Sweet by and by” which finishes off the project in a capella fashion. These guys leave you wanting more, and I would highly recommend them to anyone. The only reason they did not receive a 5 star rating, is because I felt the project could have used a little more variety tempo wise. With only one song, I would consider a ballad, the album is what the title suggests, “Travelin’ – Light.” However, for those of us who love power ballads, you might find the project lacking in that department. Still a great choice to listen to on any given day. If you haven’t heard the Calvarymen, you need to!
