Tender Mercies - In a Moment of Time
![]() Producer: Joey Gore Consisting of Jeff Lewis, Debbie Lewis and Melodie Parnell, the group boasts a Campmeeting style that I find quite appealing. They are kind of a cross between the Kevin Spencer & Friends, Wilburns and the old Sego Brothers and Naomi from the 60s and 70s. The recording begins with a real energetic number entitled "HOW COULD I FORGET". Before the song is over, you'll be singing right along with the group. Next we come to the McKamey's classic, "THE BRIDE COMING IN" and the group does a good job reviving this song, which is done a bit different than the original. The highlight of the recording for me is the beautiful ballad, "BECAUSE YOU'RE MINE". This song is a wonderful comparison of the love a parent has for their child, and the love Christ has for us. (I must confess that I find myself listening to this song over and over). Other slower songs include the title song, "IN A MOMENT OF TIME" and their rendition of the Ruppes' former hit song "UNDER HIS WINGS". "TUB OF HONEY" is a fun song that I am sure does well for the group in their concerts. I mentioned earlier the group's Campmeeting sound, and several songs fall into that category. Songs like "DIDN'T HE" and "THE LORD NEVER FAILS" all fall into that style. But the Campmeeting style isn't just boxed with the up-tempo numbers, as the former Kevin Spencer hits "THE BLOOD IS STILL THERE" and "IF THE RAPTURE WAS YESTERDAY", the oldie goldie "MY GOD IS REAL" and the ever popular, "SO MUCH TO THANK HIM FOR" all work very well in the Campmeeting style. As you can tell, other groups have recorded several of these songs. But the neat thing is Tender Mercy does them in their own unique arrangements. In fact, group members Debbie Lewis and Melodie Parnell penned 3 of the songs on this recording. North Carolina boasts some great part-time groups, and Tender Mercy falls into that category. This CD is very good and includes great song selection, ample music tracks, good, sincere vocals and just an all around good sound. If you're unfamiliar with the group, I think they'd be worth checking out. Reader Comments |
