Label – Independent
Producer – Southern Tradition
Southern Tradition is a newly formed trio made up of some of the Midwest’s great Southern Gospel veterans. They have joined together to make a nice project that will introduce them to the industry.
They have chosen some of their favorite tracks to make this c.d. and kick the project off with a Southern Gospel classic, “He’s A Personal Savior”. Tenor, Bill Schell, one of the industries top writers, has written a great song, “This I Know” that recently was a top 40 song for the group “New Ground”. This song features their great lead singer Ralph Green. At age 72, Ralph is still singing great. He is a veteran of over 60 years in Gospel Music, having sung with the All American Qt. in the 1950’s.
Albert E. Brumley’s classic, “I’ll Fly Away follows and then they do a nice job on “I’m Winging My Way Back Home”. “Walk Dem Golden Stairs” features baritone singer, Jerry Tomlinson. Jerry is a classic Southern Gospel baritone singer and reminds me of some of the legendary baritone singers of yesteryear.
“Jesus Hold My Hand” is another great Albert E. Brumley song and is done in ensemble style. They show off their tight, smooth harmony on this one. Bill Schell is a great tenor singer that sings with a lot of feeling. He does a great job on the classic, “Going Home”.
Bill has written a great traditional style Southern Gospel song, “Paradise”. A song that Bill has sung for years is possibly my favorite on the album, “Someday”.
They close the album with another awesome song from the pen of Bill Schell. “The Shepherd” is a song that never fails to touch my heart. It’s hard to imagine that the Shepherd left Heaven for me. Bill sings the notes off of this one.
I love this project because these guys are great gentlemen of our industry and have paved the way for many of us who are weekend warriors. The recording quality could have been some better. I recommend this project to anyone that loves classic Southern Gospel harmony and smooth three part harmony.
