Hailing from Whitesburg, GA, the Shadrix Trio consists of Barry Shadrix, Dedra Henry and Heather Mauldin. The combined talents of these three individuals make for a nice sound that is easy to listen to. This is a group to watch because with the right elements, they could really go far in Southern Gospel Music.
Getting things started is the upbeat “HE WAS”, which is also the group's first single from the recording and it should do well for the group. The song moves very easily into the next tune simply titled, “NOAH'S SONG”. Group member Dedra Henry, penned both titles.
Ricky Atkinson wrote one of my favorite songs on the recording titled, “ON MY WAY BACK” which features both Heather and Dedra. On the flipside, I have to admit that the following song, “GLORY, I AM GOING HOME” just doesn't work for me. The lyrical content is very elementary and I feel the group could have found a song that better suited them.Dedra Henry is a great vocalist. She has a nice vocal quality and she really shines on the slower songs like “HE CAN'T GET PAST THE BLOOD” as well as the title song “I'M NEVER ALONE” which Dedra wrote.
Barry is featured on the highly enjoyable “ON THAT DAY” and the Daryl Williams penned tune, “GOD'S GOT SOMETHING GREATER” as well as the closing number, “ON THE ROAD WITH JESUS”, which was written by Gerald Crabb and was also recorded a couple of years ago by the Freemans.
All in all, this is a good recording by a good group. I like the cover art as it features sort of retro type look. On the music side, they really seem to excel on the slower, more heartfelt tunes. I would love to hear this group come out with an acoustical recording. They have a low-key musical and vocal style as opposed to the blood and guts style that some groups have and this definitely sets them apart.
