Michael English - A Michael English Christmas
“Mary Did You Know” is performed as well as Michael has ever recorded it on this project. He seems to have put a little something extra in the feeling on this cut. Another fun song on this project is “Let’s Make The Baby King.” There are some neat guitar happenings on the track. Reverting to his more Contemporary style, “When The Baby Grew Up” has a unique message to it. Moving on to a modern country sound with “That Spirit Of Christmas,” you can sit back and just enjoy the message of this cut. This is one of my favorite songs on the whole CD. Using three traditional Christmas Carols in “O Come Emmanuel,” “O Holy Night,” and “Silent Night,” Michael treats them reverently, singing them with heart felt expressions. I said at the beginning that if you are a Michael English fan you will love this CD, however even non-Michael fans will enjoy this CD. Reader Comments

I am new to using this website. (You may wish by now I hadn't!) Only recently have I been able to view it on a regular basis. To the administrators of this site..my intentions were and are not to be critical of your site. I have read enough to know that you not only are supporters of SG. but also have a desire to see the Gospel spread through other forms of music. I support you in that whole heartedly. Obviously, the majority of content is southern. My desire is that newcomers to our music know the difference between what may be called Southern Gospel and what actually is Southern Gospel. That's all. You put in a lot of effort and work to create and maintain this site. I wish you the best . In Christian Service--Ivory

I have to agree with Ivory that S.G. music ( some describe it as four part harmony, all male voices ) tends to becime watered down when all other types of music, (B.G., Praise, Contemporary, etc. ) are included. This tends to confuse some of the younger people as to the real S.G. music. However we need not to be snobs. Just enjoy all of Gods music that he has so graciously given us.

Dear me, all this debate! As music manager for a UK- based Christian radio station, I personally have learned to appreciate various styles of music that I wouldn't choose to shove into my CD player. F'rinstance, Bill & Gloria and their Homecoming Friends leave me colder than left-over Thanksgiving turkey at Christmas, but they have a huge UK following, so we broadcast a Gaither concert every Saturday evening on our Inspirational station. As they say in Brooklyn, you pays yer money and you makes yer cherce..

I also was at the TBN taping of Michael's Christmas album. While this album may not fit the Southern Gospel genre, Michael's general type of presentation of any song certainly leans much closer to SG then CC ! He has a new album, Gospel II coming out this spring plus a new project with Mark Lowry & Reggie Smith. At his concerts, Michael sings a variety but lately has been going back to his roots! On New Years Eve, he sang "I just couldn't walk without holding Your hand" and Amazing Grace". Keep your eyes out for great things coming in Southern Gospel!!!
