Michael English - A Michael English Christmas
“Mary Did You Know” is performed as well as Michael has ever recorded it on this project. He seems to have put a little something extra in the feeling on this cut. Another fun song on this project is “Let’s Make The Baby King.” There are some neat guitar happenings on the track. Reverting to his more Contemporary style, “When The Baby Grew Up” has a unique message to it. Moving on to a modern country sound with “That Spirit Of Christmas,” you can sit back and just enjoy the message of this cut. This is one of my favorite songs on the whole CD. Using three traditional Christmas Carols in “O Come Emmanuel,” “O Holy Night,” and “Silent Night,” Michael treats them reverently, singing them with heart felt expressions. I said at the beginning that if you are a Michael English fan you will love this CD, however even non-Michael fans will enjoy this CD. Reader Comments
I would suppose this topic could go on forever. It should have came up as it's own topic rather than follow an article about a particular artist. I became a "fan" of SG at the age of 5 when I first saw the Statesmen & Blackwood Bros. Some 10 years later the Lord decided to play the piano through my hands! A gift from Him. Though i've never played professionally, I have been able to be onstage with groups like the Lesters, Jerry Goff, Masters V, Dixie Melody Boys, James Blackwood, Kingsmen, and several others. Thus the nickname "Ivory". Those groups never noticed who was playing, and that's ok. I would ask a question--what or who has brought Southern Gospel Music back to be recognized as one of the most popular music's of today? It's not the new groups or new styles. It's those old pioneers...the ones who were on the first 2-3 Gaither videos that revived this God given music. God has given Southern Gospel a 2nd chance so to speak, and saved a remnant of those old pioneers to teach us what SG is all about. We should hold on to that remnant and gaurd it very carefully. When that remnant of pioneers is gone, who will be left? That is my whole point. I love this music, have been a part of it for 40 years. I love the God who gave it to us. I have to hold it dear to my heart. Call it what it is...Southern Gospel, or something else.

I heard Micheal English on radio. Sounded like he was in pain most of the time.

Well, Jalee,,,,,wonder what kind of pain you're in....if you don't like what you hear, "turn the radio OFF".
BTW, I was once told, "if can't say something nice, then don't speak at all". So get a clue! :yuk:

Just a thought....
I love the different styles of music.... Southern Gospel, Bluegrass, ........ well.... ok I "love" Southern Gospel and Bluegrass... LOL But I like them ALL! All styles have their own identity and place.... But in reality... I think most artists just put what they do out there and hopefully with God's blessing and the anointing it will help somebody somewhere. ...I think artists like Michael English and The Martins are just being themselves and their music is used where ever God opens the door.. And that impossible for man decide.

I agree with you, Tammy, with some reservation. Many styles have their place (exactly). I can only say check the name of the website and address. What would you expect to find in this "place"? SG. Contemporary, Blue Grass, Country, Rap, all have their "own" place. It just happens that this "place" is Southern Gospel. At least that what is says. I can listen to some Bluegrass; contemporary-NOT, regardless of who. This is kind of funny. My kids want to go eat at a mexican "place"--we go to TB and they order fried chicken strips!! Or go to a chicken "place" and order burgers!! Funny how some want to please everyone, while others just strive to be the best. Merry Christmas.

This was my opinion of what I heard on the radio. I am letting others know I don't recommend it. I was one non-English fan that didn't enjoy it.

As the owners of this website, Ivory, let me clear up the confusion for you. Michael English sings Gospel Music. He has roots in southern gospel as well as contemporary christian music. He shares many fans in both styles of music. Because of this his music will always be pertinent to this website and to southern gospel music as a whole. No one asks you to listen to him if he is not your cup of tea anymore than you are required to order a burger and fries when visiting your local mexican restaurant. However I would expect that you wouldn't spend your meal time telling those who are enjoying their hamburger and fries that they should go somewhere else to order it. We sort of expect the same courtesy here.
Thanks, now enjoy the website and the music that YOU like.

Sorry, Susan. Everyone seems to have taken this as an attack on Michael which I stated is not the subject. It was mentioned about being in this business and having thick skin. The Apostle Paul dealt with "thick skin". He was stoned. Ouch!! Thank you for revealing Bible truths. I will try to be more supportive of what I like instead of what I have a concern about. HHHmmmm

Ivory, I understand your comments, but you need to realize that Gospel Singers such as Michael, touch people of ALL different ages. The pioneers you spoke of don't always do that. When we have artist like Michael, who can and does reach out and touch the youth, then that is what it's all about. Our young people would listen to Michael's message a lot quicker than they wood some of out older Gosple singers.....and I'm not a young chick here speaking either. :hehe: . Michael has an Awesome Testimony for all ages! And if you have a concern about something, that's when you PRAY my
dear!
