McGruders - “Silver and Gold”

There are only a few artists in the Gospel Music field I respect as much as I do the McGruders.  No one in the Southern Gospel industry sings with more conviction, excitement and emotion as the McGruders.  They are the epitome of what is real and genuine.  Though not the greatest and most well trained singers on the gospel circuit, they have a real heart for ministry and an anointing that few artists possess.  I am glad they are back singing and recording, and “Silver and Gold” continues where they left off, and McGruder fans will no doubt dive into this new release.

With it’s militant sound, ”READY FOR THE BATTLE“ starts the CD off and running by helping the saints equip themselves for battle against the forces of Hell, while reminding us that it’s “…by Jesus’ blood we win the victory!”

The country sounding ”DUST ON THE ALTARS“ is a sad but true sermon in song.  Listen as Carroll McGruder reminisces about a time when people used to pray and how the altars would be full of people weeping before the Lord and now…"what once meant so much is now covered with dust.”

Chris Campbell and Priscilla McGruder share duties in singing ”JESUS YOU’VE BEEN SO GOOD TO ME“, while Carroll sings, ”HOW LONG“ which goes on to explain just how long and how far God’s love will go. 

My personal favorite from this recording is the song ”JORDAN’S TIDE.” You can’t help but get goose bumps as you listen to Priscilla victoriously proclaim with consummate conviction, “I’m going over, I’m not going under…I’m sailing in on Jordan’s tide.”

Every recording by the McGruders features a ballad from Priscilla.  Listen as she shares her heart on a beautiful song called, ”FROM HEAVEN’S POINT OF VIEW.” Though her health has not been the greatest the last couple of years, she assures us that “what once looked like a mountain, is just a hill from Heaven’s point of view.” You have to know she has literally lived this song!

The peace that passes all understanding is one of the great attributes of serving the Lord.  ”THE STORM“, featuring vocalist/songwriter Chris Campbell, reminds us of that peace that “…I may be in the storm, but the storm is not in me.”

”TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE“ has that unmistakable McGruder trademark style.  This is one of those songs that will grow on you.  Though many people may think we’ve “bet the farm on this” life for Christ, and that “it’s too good to be true, but it is!”

Proclaiming the miracles performed in their lives, the McGruders sing, ”I’M STANDING ON A MIRACLE“ and in up-tempo Praise & Worship style, Priscilla and the McGruders tear into their final song, ”HOW CAN I HOLD MY PEACE.” You too will be rejoicing when this song is over!

The McGruders is not everyone cup of tea, but there is no denying the impact they have made for the Kingdom and Southern Gospel Music.  I am glad to see them singing again and I know that the legions of McGruder fans are happy as well!  Welcome back, McGruders!

I HAVE NEVER BEEN A MCGRUDERS FAN, BUT THEIR SONG," FROM HEAVENS POINT OF VEIW," REALLY TOUCHED MY HEART. BEING TERMINALLY ILL MYSELF, THIS SONG REALLY PUT MY ILLNESS IN THE RIGHT PERSPECTIVE.

I've been a McGruder fan for several years...even though I will admit their past few recordings were less than stellar. However, I feel this new project is better than anything they've ever done. I especially like Jordan's Tide and From Heaven's Point of View.

You have nothing to apologize for but remember-SGM ,as a genre,is the music!!Do not question anything !!Because anything else is superfluous.(Lack of Biblical truth-no matter.Do not question biblical truth in the music or the artist.Question someone's less than Christian lifestyle-strictly forbidden.No fruit inspectors--PLEASE!!
For as in opera everything is ok as long as you sing it.And it is done in a way to appeal to everyone.No matter the spiritual implications.

This is not to be used to air your theological differences about a denomination. As to being fruit inspectors. You do that personally, not publicly. If you don't like someone's theology or lifestyle don't buy their music, but as to fruit inspection....that would be subjective wouldn't it? Subjective to your own theological background and beliefs. We aren't talking about out and out sin, we were talking about a question on difference of doctrine. That has no place here.

I understand completely. I shouldnt have said what I did, and for that I really am sorry. Its just that when I feel strongly about something it just aalll comes out lol. But thats no excuse. Thank you guys for setting me straight. :p

Bill, what point was affirmed? If it was the point that "no one's Biblical view point is valid except mine" then I guess you are right.
There is a great tendency to be condemners and not inspectors.
