The Kingdom Heirs have released Sing It Again to introduce their new line up performers. New faces include Jeff Chapman on bass vocals, Jodi Hosterman on tenor, and Adam Harman handling the keyboard duties. This CD is essentially a “table” or “concert” product. It mostly includes songs the Kingdom Heirs have recorded previously with different vocalists.

The song selection is excellent. Of course, they had the benefit of hindsight with this concept, and hindsight is always a great judge of quality. The biggest prize among the newcomers is Hosterman. That’s not a put down on Chapman or Harman, because both are very capable professionals. It’s just that Hosterman really stands out. When he kicks in with a tenor melody line on tunes like “Lord Do It Again” and “I Go To The Rock” at the beginning of the CD, you hear a clear, refined tone quality in his voice. He’s extremely precise on pitch, even on up-tempo numbers. He chooses accuracy over showing off his range, which shows maturity for a young tenor. Hosterman is also featured on the classic “‘Til The Storm Passes Over,” where he demonstrates his ability to sell a slow song. Concert fans are sure to eat that one up.

Other interesting cuts include two cover songs: Phillips, Craig and Dean‘s “I Want To Be Just Like You” features Steve French while “I’m Gonna Sing” is presented with little alteration from the Gaither Vocal Band‘s original version. Chapman is featured on “When He Reached Down His Hand” and Arthur Rice reprises “Hello Mama” for his devoted fans. One interesting twist is heard when Chapman takes the bass line in the opposite direction from the earlier recording of “Anchored In The Rock.”

I’m giving this recording 3 1/2 stars. It sounds good. The music production level is somewhat basic fare, but overall, this CD is great for any Kingdom Heirs fans who want a project with the new guys. Several moments really do shine, while others could have benefitted from some extra polish in the studio.
