Justin Hoagland, baritone singer for a great regional group, the Redemptions, is a wonderful young singer and terrific performer. This is his first solo project and it showcases the many sides of Justin. He kicks the album off with the Phil Cross song “Dead Days Are Over”. Squire Parson’s great song “I Call It Home” is one of my favorite songs on the project. Justin has a great feel for the more Country flavored songs
Larry Petree’s bluesy ballad “Oh How The Sun Does Shine”, takes us back to the 1950s and Justin has a little fun on this one. One of the great songs of the 1970s is Elmer Cole’s Classic “Ten Thousand Years”. This song was nominated multiple tines for “Song of the Year” in Gospel music. This cut is Justin at his best. He really lays back on this one and lets it build. It’s just good singing.
Justin has included some of his favorite hymns on this CD, including a nice Country version of “I Love To Tell The Story”. “Sweet Bye And Bye” is done in a more traditional fashion and is followed by “When We All Get To Heaven”. This song picks up the tempo and is a nice change of pace.
Another great cut for Justin is the Gerald Crabb song “When It’s My Time”. Again, this more Country styled song really shows off Justin’s vocals. “Still Feeling Fine” picks the tempo back up. Justin does a fine job on this song. I consider this song to be more suited for a group, but he pulls it off. He closes the project out with another great Phil Cross song, “The Embrace Of Grace”. This is one of his favorite cuts on the project.
This is one of the better “lease” projects that I have heard in a while. Justin has picked some nice tracks that suit his voice and the recording quality is very good. I would invite you to check it out for yourself...
