If one looks at the last 10 years of Southern Gospel group, undeniably one of the group’s at the forefront of the booming country-tinged aspect of the genre is Jeff & Sheri Easter. The group has been at it a long time, churning out hit songs of the past decade like “Praise His Name”, “One Way”, “We Are Broken”, and “Been There Done That” – just to name a few.

Life Is Great and Getting Better is the first recording for the popular group without the backing and marketing expertise of a major label, as the group exited their long-time home of Spring Hill Music Group this past year. In doing so, Jeff & Sheri Easter, like The Hoppers last year, proved that once you gain the industry experience, the use of a major label is no longer needed to create highly effective and creative recordings.

Life Is Great and Getting Better kicks off with the Jeff Easter led title cut that shows the group is off to a great start with it’s infectious country melodic-hook. “Livin’ In the Rain” (one of the album highlights) kicks into gear with its bluegrass/Americana based style and Sheri’s undeniable vocal talent. The inclusion of country music super-star Vince Gill on the cut make for an interesting vocal performance – easily one of the strongest on the recording.

The upcoming #1 hit “Over & Over” follows in step and is easily recognizable as one of Jeff Easter’s finest vocal performances to date. The Belinda Smith and Sue C. Smith penned tune should have no problem being one of Jeff & Sheri Easter’s biggest hits. “Joshua’s Song” follows as a typical Sheri Easter ballad. What makes the song unique is the slow melodic approach to a story that usually invokes upbeat styles. “Joshua’s Song” is beautifully crafted tune penned by Sheri Easter. “Feelin’ Alright, Doin’ Okay”, “I Wouldn’t Change You If I Could”, and “All the Days That End In Why” all seem like familiar Jeff & Sheri Easter numbers – songs with a strong Gospel music and their usual country styling. “All the Days That End In Why” has the potential to be a big radio hit for the group.

“A Lullaby” is a touching ballad penned by Sheri Easter and written for her children Morgan and Madison in which the two teenagers join their mother on the tune. It’s a song that should resonate well with mothers and grandmothers. A similarly based family tune, “Daddy Hung the Moon” is another album highlight with strong imagery used throughout its lyrics.

The old-time country based “Old Chunk of Coal” is another album highlight with its strong instrumentation on the song. The love song “Dance” closes out the album keeping up the lyrical themes of faith and family. Overall, Life Is Great and Getting Better should be noted for the strength of the recording and songwriting without the help of a major label. It’s quite possible that Jeff & Sheri Easter have created their strongest album to date. If not the strongest – it’s definitely on par with fan favorites like Sittin’ On Cloud Nine and Ordinary Day.

James Hales's avatar This is a great recording. I agree with Chris, that this will be one of, if not THE greatest J&S;Easter recording. I also agree that "All the Days that End in Why" is a hit as well. So glad to see these guys with their first #1 song in Singing News. They deserve it and the song is more than deserving...
