Harris Family - On the Rock
Producer: Phil Toler/Art Bain
Label: Independent Release

Hailing from Pasadena, Texas, this family group, consisting of mom and dad, Roger and Sue Harris along with their daughters Shanna and Kristen, has a good, solid vocal sound with some good family harmony going on as well. The group has only been around for a couple of years, and they do really well and have a ton of potential.
The country tinged title song, "ON THE ROCK" starts the recording off and features nice vocals before things slow down for the song, "ALTERED AT THE ALTAR" (a really good song, by the way).
Showing off some convention style singing, the uptempo, "SOAR LIKE AN EAGLE" is done quite well, as is the power ballad, "MORE THAN JUST A CROSS", which was penned by group matriarch, Sue Harris. Being the resident songwriter in the group, Sue has several tunes on this recording including "I WANT MY PRAYERS TO HAVE WINGS", "WITH ME IN MIND" (which she co-wrote with Janice P. Stillman), "THINKIN' 'BOUT HEAVEN" and "THE SON WILL SHINE AGAIN". Other songs included on this recording are the uptempo tunes, "SEND DOWN THE RAIN" and "I BELIEVE".
This family has a very pleasing sound and one I'd like to hear more of. They actually tend to sound better on the slower tunes, but they tackle the uptempo ones very well. The tracks are adequate, but with only 2 people providing all the music tracks (Art Bain and David Johnson, albeit wonderful musicians in their own right), there is only so much that can be done. The overall quality of the recording is decent, but not great. Like I said, they really are very good singers and the potential here is excellent. And as an added plus, Sue isn't too shabby when it comes to songwriting either.
Personal Favs: ON THE ROCK; ALTERED AT THE ALTAR; I WANT MY PRAYERS TO HAVE WINGS; WITH ME IN MIND
