Greater Vision - Quartets
Almost since their conception, people have been asking the question, “When is Greater Vision going to add a Bass singer?” Alas, not only has Greater Vision added a Bass singer but they added 15 Bass singers. They even made arrangements with heaven to have three Bass singers from there to sing on the CD. Opening the CD is the spirited number “He Is To Me” featuring Glenn Dustin of Legacy Five. This would make a good radio single. One of my favorites is “We Seek Your Face” featuring Jeff Chapman of the Kingdom Heirs. This is just a very smooth worshipful song. Using some great technology, the late Brock Speer is featured on the Speer Family former hit “City That’s Coming Down”. I really like this cut also and think it could go well on radio too. Keeping that technology going the late J D Sumner of the Stamps Quartet is featured on “Victory Road”, and the late Rex Nelon of the LeFevres and the Nelons is featured on “He Called Me Out”. Hearing these guys sing with a real Inspirations sound really comes alive as Inspirations Bass Mike Holcomb is featured on “Rocked On The Deep.” Gene McDonald of the Florida Boys does a nice job on the mellow and worshipful song “God’s Grace Reaches Farther”. Eric Bennett of the Integrity Quartet shows his talents as he is featured on the old Cathedrals song “He Loves Me”. Eric can sing as smooth as any Bass singer I have ever heard. Other Bass singers featured include George Younce formerly with the Cathedrals and more recently the Old Friends Quartet sings the song that he made a hit, “Who Can Do Anything?”, Christian Davis formerly of the Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet, Tim Duncan of Signature Sound Quartet, Tracy Stuffle of the Perrys, Tim Riley of Gold City, Jeff Pearles formerly of Palmetto State Quartet and currently with the Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet, and Ed O’Neal of the Dixie Melody Boys. There is absolutely not a bad song on this CD, not even a mediocre song on this CD. I do wish that some of the songs had more Bass features on them. With all of this said, and as great as all these Bass singers are singing with Greater Vision, this CD speaks to the issue of Greater Vision being a trio. It’s all called timing. These three guys have such impeccable timing when they sing together that the only ones noticeable singing a word a little differently are the Bass singers. These Bass singers are all the cream of the crop, so it emphasizes the magnitude of Gerald, Rodney, and Jason’s word and vowel pronunciation and phrasing. So, while I have thoroughly enjoyed this Quartets CD, and it will go into my CD collection as one of the best I have, I say to Greater Vision, “Keep going just as you are.”

This is a super great CD and a one-of-a-kind project. When they performed recently here in the Jacksonville area they sang the song "Who Can Do Anything". I expected George Younce to come from behind the curtains. It sounded so real. This is a great CD and they would do well to think about adding a bass man to the group. But they are doing pretty good without one.
