“Taking it back” is a song about taking back what the enemy has stolen, and by the end of this tune you believe that the Dove Brothers are doing just that. I don’t normally point out particular vocal licks, but the tenor gets me every time at the end of the second verse on the lyric “Victory Sweet!” Love it! The title cut follows, easily becoming one of my favorites on the project. Featuring the group’s impressive bass, the hook of this song will have you singing “Never Ever Be the Same” all day long. “I Will Lay Them at His Feet” slows things down a bit, but doesn’t really make a strong impression.
“The Miracle of Faith” had to grow on me a little. I have to admit that though I loved the lyrical hook, I struggled to connect with the melody right away. Still after listening to it several times I found myself wanting it to be a bigger song. “I’m Gonna Make It” was melodically reminiscent of song I remember from the late 90’s called, “Oh What a Mighty God.” “Journey’s End” turned out to be another favorite. With almost a 50’s feel, it will bring a smile to your face. The piano playing done on this album is great, especially on songs like “Journey’s End and “Gloryland Express.” Audiences are sure to love “Gloryland Express,” with all its creative imagery.
“I Can Pray” was the power ballad I was waiting for. Reminding us all that when there is nothing else to do, we can PRAY! This is my pick of the project by far. It has a strong message, and the song is exceptionally sung. “The Maranatha Church Revival” was enthusiastic and I really enjoyed it. “No Time” rounds out the project.
Overall I thought it was an enjoyable listen. The middle of the record had a few weak spots song choice wise for me, but for the most part it was a strong effort. I especially loved the tenor and bass singers, though the baritone and lead were quite good as well.
