Those who know me know that I love a group that has that old fashioned campmeeting feel like the Happy Goodman Family and Sego Brothers & Naomi. Not many groups today boast that type of sound, but the Diplomats have taken that style of music and have made it their own personal trademark. You probably would never call them the smoothest singers around, but they can sing anybody off the platform with their music. It's joyful and invigorating music that lingers long after the music stops.

A happy fiddle intro starts the recording off as the Diplomats dive into the old hymn, "COME AND DINE" before turning in their rendition of an older Goodman favorite, which features an excellent performance from Rita, "HE'S COMING AGAIN". The Diplomats recorded their own distinct renditions on a couple of other Goodman classics, "MEET ME OVER ON THE OTHER SIDE" (one of my personal all time favorite Goodman tunes) and "THE EASTERN GATE." They also rendered their own version of the Southern Gospel quartet classic, "WHEN I CROSS TO THE OTHER SIDE OF JORDAN" as well.

With half the recording featuring favored tunes from the past, the other half features some extremely solid newer tunes such as the country feel of "THE GREATEST LOVE", which features Corey and is a highlight of the recording, as is the uptempo, "WHEN I CALL." The slow/medium tempo, "BE READY TO GO" is one of the most solid sounding songs on the recording and features an excellent bass feature by Joseph Brown. "I KNOW HE STILL LOVES ME" is something a little different for the Diplomats, but it really works for them and is one of the highlights of the recording.

Rounding out the list are the medium tempo "CAN'T STOP AND WON'T SIT DOWN" and the uptempo "HE IS", which close out the recording with a nice finish.

When compared to their previous recording, I think this latest effort is a bit better.in both quality and song selection. Joseph Brown really gives them a nice, rich bottom to their sound and is a great addition to the group. Those who think that this style of music is a lost art.think again! There is a "New Horizon" ahead for this style and the Diplomats are at forefront.

This recording is a wonderful blessing to me. I am a long time fan of The Diplomats. There concerts are annointed by the spirit. Strong powerful vocals from Rita Pearson make me immediately think of Vestal Goodman. A group true to the cause. The songs they choose for their recordings are truly wonderful. Jimmy writes quite a few songs and is truly gifted. I would recommend this CD to anyone. If this group is close to you then you need to attend their concert. You will be blessed!
