PRODUCER: David Phelps
Label: Word Records
Website: DavidPhelps.com

David Phelps has had quite the career already. The pop singer with the big voice got his start with Southern Gospel stalwarts Gaither Vocal Band. He released three impressive solo outings and a Christmas record while still recording with the Vocal Band. Last year, Phelps left the Vocal Band to concentrate on his already hectic solo career. Now, Phelps is releasing his first ever live recording - Legacy of Love: David Phelps Live! Recorded at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama to a packed house, Legacy of Love features songs from Phelps' two solo outings on Word Records - as well as a couple new songs found only on this recording. For the most part, the live album features Phelps doing what he does best - singing sky high on songs that soar - such as tunes like "Virtuoso", "Just As I Am", "With His Love (Sing Holy)", and "Behold the Lamb." He also has some softer moments that are really some of the finer moments on the CD - such as "Gentle Savior", "God Will Take Care of You", and "Bring Him Home." Overall, Legacy of Love will probably only appeal to fans of Phelps. New listeners should probably wait and see what Phelps does on his next studio outing.

Chris D. Unthank's avatar BTW - last time I reviewed a David Phelps CD and said what was wrong with it - I got reamed for that too. Looks like it's a no win situation for me.

You made a very good point - it is not all about star rating, which is what my gripe is.

Oh yeah, what review? All I saw was an explanation of the project, his career, and list of the songs - that is not a review. A review gives a critical synopsis of the project, while stating the goods and the bads. Forget the 1/2 star...my problem is that you did not really give a reason for the 3.5 star rating other than it will only appeal to fans of Phelps...and for that matter I am not a fan of Phelps, but I know what he is worthy of.

BTW - I never said that James had an obligation to agree with your review, nor did I say that you two had never disagreed. I just simply said that one would expect him to agree with you.

I never said that James was obligated to agree with your review - I just stated that one would expect him to agree with your review. I know you two don't always agree and have seen that also.

Oh yeah, what review? The only thing I read was an explanation of the project, his career, and list of the songs. Forget the 1/2 star - a review should explain why you give a certain rating. I just think the goods and bads should be stated specifically and not given a rating with no explanation.

...and it doesn't matter if I like the review - I just want it to give an honest enough critical synopsis that it a substantial review.

Sorry for the duplicate, but I didn't think the first one posted

As for the "Revelation" review, I think that was an honest critique of the project and have no problem with that review. I may not agree with all of it, but it is a credible review. Even though, I didn't like the fact that it did not have a star rating on it. Then again, I can't be happy can I....

You can't win for losing...I will have to agree with you there.

Bass Singer,

Chris did do what you wanted, you just didn't like what he said and what he rated it. Get over it. I am sure David has.

First of all "Tmooney", I don't know who pulled your chain. This conversation was between me and Chris. BTW, he did not do what I stated in my response. It has nothing to do with what I like. For the record, I have not seen the DVD or heard the entire CD, so this has nothing to do with my bias or what I want. A review should include a critique, which is all he asked for.......also, I think Chris can 'fend for himself from what I have seen, so he don't need you to contribute.

Bass Singer,

This isn't your private conversation board and I am not the only one who entered this conversation. You have a big ego problem and you are the one who needs to back off.

Get over it. You aren't even making sense anymore.

Chris D. Unthank's avatar I gave "Revelation" 3 stars.

And it appears now that this conversation can end. The person who is complaining the most about the review and the star rating hasn't even heard the recording to know whether or not it WOULD BE worthy of 3 1/2, 4, 2 1/2, or 5 stars.

Chris, the reason I have a problem with the review is because I feel you are much harder on david phelps than you are many barely deserving artists.Your review of revelation, combined with this one--shows a pattern of pointing out many negatives and just depositing a FEW postives on your way to a less than complimentary review.Im not pointing my finger at you,Im just saying it APPEARS to be intentional.Im not going to go on and on about it like the other guy did,but in my totally objective opinion,it sems a bit peculiar. You have plenty to say about what he is doing wrong(in your mind),and very little to say of things you approve of.It seems like a very opinionated review---rather than an objective one.Sorry.

Braxton, so what makes your opinion of his review more objective and less opinionated than his review?

This conversation is hilarious!!!
