David Phelps has had quite the career already. The pop singer with the big voice got his start with Southern Gospel stalwarts Gaither Vocal Band. He released three impressive solo outings and a Christmas record while still recording with the Vocal Band. Last year, Phelps left the Vocal Band to concentrate on his already hectic solo career. Now, Phelps is releasing his first ever live recording - Legacy of Love: David Phelps Live! Recorded at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama to a packed house, Legacy of Love features songs from Phelps' two solo outings on Word Records - as well as a couple new songs found only on this recording. For the most part, the live album features Phelps doing what he does best - singing sky high on songs that soar - such as tunes like "Virtuoso", "Just As I Am", "With His Love (Sing Holy)", and "Behold the Lamb." He also has some softer moments that are really some of the finer moments on the CD - such as "Gentle Savior", "God Will Take Care of You", and "Bring Him Home." Overall, Legacy of Love will probably only appeal to fans of Phelps. New listeners should probably wait and see what Phelps does on his next studio outing.

So basically what you're saying is this: you don't want a critical look at albums. I have reviewed and score this album based on my reviewing and scoring methods - NOT other reviewers on this site.

And besides that - I don't know why everyone is getting so upset about the star rating. 3 1/2 stars is a GOOD review.

In my opinion David is not a SGM singer. They dont put other CCM reviews in thier. He is fortunate. David is an outstanding singer, I should say one of the greatest, however this 3 1/2 ratings are good and he is not SG.

Sorry for the comparison, Chris. If we're talking about mainstream reviewing here...yeah, 3 1/2 stars is pretty generous! I'm sure there are some five star musical moments on this project but, overall the rating is probably accurate.

Larry - True, David is not a SG singer "anymore". But his ties to GVB is the reason he gets attention from the SG crowd. He is one of a very few singers that can go from one genre to the next as well and pull it off!

I can name many projects that have gotten anywhere from 3 to 4 star review on this site that are not worthy of 2 stars, but I won't ridicule those artists. 3-1/2 stars is no where near the production and vocal quality of David Phelps's material. I agree that the song selection is not great because it is previously-recorded, but it is at least worthy of 4 stars. There is a pretty substantial difference in a 3.5 and 4 star project and he deserves the credit.

I agree with most of the people that have responded to "what appears to be" a lackluster review....lets be honest,when 95 percent of everything that is reviewed on this site gets a generous,or more often times "more than" generous review,giving david phelps a 3.5 review,and calling it generous is not only ridiculous,but it is also a very obvious non objective review.It is obvious the reviewer is no fan of david phelps.I see a troubling trend of people in the SG industry(singers and fans alike) that have some sort of block when it comes to accepting the awesome talent that is in david phelps.To be honest Im pretty tired of it.This album is fantastic,and shows why david is heads and tails above all other singers in the SG or CCM industry,or for that matter--pop music or broadway as well.You really have to try to be negative to give david phelps anything that resembles a negative review.....or jealous,which is unfortunate.

You guys are funny to me. Please tell me where ANYWHERE in this review was I *negative* about David Phelps? You people seem to not be able to get past the star rating.

The fact of the matter is that a review is simply one person's opinion. You don't agree - that's fine. This is MY opinion of the recording.

I in no way have denied the fact that David is one of the best singers today. He's one of my favorite live performers - however, he has never produced a recording that I feel he is capable of producing. You may disagree with that - and that is fine. But please do NOT put words in my mouth or say I am "jealous" because I feel this recording wasn't up to par for Mr. Phelps.

I didn't read anything negative in the review at all. In fact, when I saw the rating, I had to re-read to see if I missed something. I just bought the CD/DVD this past weekend, and haven't watched or listened to it all. But I see exactly where Chris is coming from in the review. This does break any new ground for David. While I probably would rated this higher than Chris (at least 4 stars), I completely understand his review and rating, and I do not understand why all the hoopla. I thought it was very fair, and I am a HUGE Phelps fan, so no sour grapes coming from my end!
