Riding high on the Crabb Family’s hugely successful annual CrabbFest Homecoming in Kentucky, they have released, through Daywind Records, sort of a “Best of CrabbFest 2003” CD and DVD. Featuring performances by the Crabb Family, there are also featured performances by Gerald Crabb and Mike Bowling along with fellow Daywind artists Brian Free & Assurance, LordSong, Perrys and Hoskins Family.

The Crabb Family starts off with their former #1 song, “DON’T YOU WANNA GO” and interspersed throughout the DVD and CD, we are treated with excellent performances by the Crabb Family on “PLEASE COME DOWN TO ME” (which shows some glimpses of a proud Gerald Crabb singing along off stage), “THE WALK”, “THE CROSS” (with Jason leading the crowd to a rendition of “The Old Rugged Cross"), “YOU LET THE LIGHT BACK IN” and their signature song, “THROUGH THE FIRE”.

As the recording moves along, Mike Bowling leads into a chorus of his former #1 song, “THE CALL” , and then quickly moves on to his more recent #1 song entitled, “I TAKE HIM BACK”. Gerald Crabb steps up later and sings his current charting song “HARD KNOCKS” from his solo recording “Roads That I’ve Traveled”.

Brian Free & Assurance turns in a classy performance on two of their recent chart songs, “WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN” and “SO CLOSE TO HOME” while LordSong takes their turn with their recent hit, “WHILE I WAIT” along with the title song of their current Daywind release, “I REFUSE TO BE AFRAID” .

The Perrys really ‘show out’ with “ DAMASCUS ROAD “ and “ CALVARY ANSWERS FOR ME”. They perform these songs with great conviction and the crowd seems to thoroughly enjoy them. The Hoskins Family are on top of their game as well with stellar performances with “WHEN THE SAVIOR WIPES THE TEARS FROM OUR EYES” and “SAFE THUS FAR”. In contrast with the DVD, the CD features an encore of the latter song.

Closing out the DVD (this song is not on the CD) as the whole Crabb clan gathers up on stage to sing the Gaither classic, “GOING HOME”.

With the exception of a couple of vocal slip-ups, these are flawless performances and makes for a great advertisement CD/DVD for CrabbFest 2004! Most of these songs were performed from the main stage during CrabbFest 2003, but Gerald Crabb, LordSong and the Hoskins Family were taped at the Showroom Lounge at the Executive Inn during the event. But no matter where at CrabbFest 2003 these artists were taped, the crowds are large and they are thoroughly ‘into’ each of the artist’s performances.

Some features you get on the DVD, that of course are not on CD, are a sneak peak at their Midnight Pajama Party while Aaron shares (with mud on his face!) his thoughts of Mike Bowling as they throw Mike a Birthday party and you also get a sneak peak inside the Crabb Family’s bus as Cameron Isaacs and Hope Bowling sing you a song. There are other scenes of CrabbFest on the DVD as well and like I said earlier, it all comes together to make for excellent advertising for CrabbFest 2004

I've really enjoyed the CD, but after reading your review, I have a feeling I'm going to have to go buy that DVD- it sounds awesome.

I was surprised they let LordSongs "vocal slip" make the final cut. It was really bad...

I agree. I felt it was something that could have been fixed in the studio, but they let it go.

That was the main reason for the 4 1/2 star rating. Otherwise, it would have probably been a 5 star.

smile    I Love the Crabb Family. Ever since I seen Jason, Kelly , & Terah on the Gaither Video singing "Please Forgive Me"
I fell in Love with their music and I've been a fan ever Since

I have the DVD and it is awesome. I didn't catch the vocal slip. What song was it on? I have only watched it all the way through, one time. Every other time I have chosen my favorites to watch which of course is mostly the Crabbs.

James Hales's avatar The slip is on LordSong's "While I Wait." If memory serves me right, it is near the end on the line "I'll start to Celebrate..." I think!

LordSong can mess up and still out sing 99% of the groups in the industry.

James Hales's avatar True! They are awesome!

But, it still was something that could have been fixed in the studio. wink
