There's a reason people love male quartet four-part harmony and when you hear Brothers Redeemed Quartet's CD, "Sowing the Seed," you'll be reminded why.
The 10-track project opens up with a ballad penned by James Pearson (Diplomats founder), "When I Look at the Cross," which demonstrates excellent harmony. Great solo vocals, with the exception of bottom notes sounding almost out of range for strength. A bouncy track, "Good to Know," written by Jenna Boyd follows with a high tenor melody line kicking in. Great quartet ending on that one! "I'm Going There" has a nice bass lead in on the choruses that you'll enjoy. You can't get more traditional sounding that the cut, "I'll Live Again." This is a great sing-a-long track. "Champion of Love" has no doubt been recorded by hundreds of artists. One thing that grabbed my attention immediately with this rendition is the well-performed piano opening, totally different than the big dramatic intros you are used to hearing. You might notice a little Scott Fowler influence on the delivery of lead vocals, more than Gerald Wolfe. The tenor vocals could have been a bit more upfront on the overall mix of this song, but they pop out nicely at the end. Producer Mike Pillow created a good arrangement of the "Heaven's Medley" on track nine. It includes, "I Feel Like Travelin' On," as well as "I'll Fly Away"; and "Heaven's Jubilee." I'm sure this one gets great concert response. I enjoyed this project because of the familiar cuts and arrangements, but mostly because I love good male quartet singing. If you share that feeling, you'll like "Sowing the Seed" by Brothers Redeemed Quartet.
